The Steelers Dynasty of the 70's Came Down To a Coin Toss

I had heard this long ago and completely forgot how things went down. To decide who would get the top pick in next years draft after the Steelers and Bears both went 1-13 in 1969, the Commish Pete Rozelle flipped a 1921 silver dollar in a New Orleans hotel room and Ed McCaskey called heads and the coin landed tails..........Welcome to Pittsburgh Terry Bradshaw!

Shitting the bed on both Johnny Unitas and Jim Brown years before didn't sting quite as bad after 1969 I bet.

I can agree that with their Steel Curtain defense and powerful running game, the Steelers of the mid-70's were able to win with the quarterback in a supporting role... But to say that Terry Bradshaw wasn't a necessity in forming that dynasty is utter nonsense. And that "supporting role" changed when the NFL changed the CB contact rule. He destroyed defenses after that.

When you're that good that the NFL has to change its rules to make it fair on your opponents... That makes you a legend

Umm ok. And what makes you think that?

I'm a big Bradshaw guy, but I tend to agree...the dynasty started with the '69 draft and take Big Mean Joe Green & LC Greenwood...I think when they got Franco, the DEF was well established, he was the last pc needed...any of the 3 guys in my avatar probably would have won at least 2 rings.

every single one of these is a argument fail.

We are discussing whether the Steelers would have won many of those SuperBowls anyways with another 'good' QB. You can't use the fact that they won the superbowls as an argument... it's the thing we are discussing. Dumb on it's face.

All the other factors mentioned were common to most all QBs of that era... so they are not distinctive.

You can think Bradshaw was the indispensable factor, but the arguments in that meme are worthless to prove the point.

Don't be angry the Cubs pushed the Pirates around all year and shut them out of the Wildcard game.

I care why???
I didn't even know they still played that lame ass sport.

That's a different question altogether. Some dynastic team might also have had a weakness at right guard that cost them championships, but that doesn't mean that THE PARTICULAR right guard they had during the dynasty was crucial to the forming of the dynasty. Use brain betterer.
