SEC Team Recruiting Consensus Rankings for 2015 | AthlonSports.com

Athlon Sports has averaged out the four major recruiting services — 247Sports, Rivals.com, Scout.com and ESPN — and created the SEC consensus team recruiting rankings for 2015. Here is what we learned:

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, there were a total of 33 five-star recruits in the entire 2014 class and 35 in the '15 class. Alabama has signed six five-star recruits in each of the last two classes. For 2015, the ACC as a league signed seven five-stars and the Pac-12 signed eight. Bama alone signed four more five-star prospects than the entire Big Ten (1) and Big 12 (1) combined this cycle.

Of those 68 five-star recruits entering college football over the last two cycles, the SEC has signed 37. That’s six more than the other four power conferences combined. The ACC is second with 12 five-star signees over the last two years. The Pac-12 has 11, the Big Ten has five and the Big 12 is last with just three five-star signatures the last two years. The SEC placed 12 teams in the consensus Top 25 classe.

SEC and national average rank:
1. Alabama (1.5)
2. Tennessee (4.5)
3. Auburn (6.3)
4. Georgia (7.5)
5. LSU (8.8)
6. Texas A&M (11)
7. Mississippi St. (17)
8. Ole Miss (18.3)
9. South Carolina (19.8)
10. Florida (23.3)
11. Arkansas (23.3)
12. Missouri (24)
13. Kentucky (40.3)
12. Vanderbilt (52.8)

Recruiter of the Year

Mario Cristobal

Buzz: OK, so recruiting to Alabama in 2015 isn't exactly selling ice to Eskimos. Still, the haul Cristobal lured to Tuscaloosa is impressive. The Tide offensive line coach played a major role in landing five-stars Minkah Fitzpatrick, Daron Payne and Calvin Ridley. In short, the Florida native was responsible for building the foundation of the nation's No. 2 class and the top class in the powerful SEC. He also added four stars Lester Cotton and Shawn Burgess-Becker. Landing three-star prospect Matt Womack is an afterthought, but it certainly wasn't simple, as even in that instance, Cristobal had to fight off other SEC programs that could offer a better chance at playing time. Cristobal's Recruiter of the Year title was certainly earned. Despite what fans may think, the Alabama program doesn't magically recruit top talent by itself.

Its rumored that Mizzou might be mixing in the 3-4 next year instead of just running the 4-3 and the 4-2-5. The move would make sense because Mizzou has been developing 3-4 talent to the NFL for awhile now and the new defensive coordinator coached the 3-4 at Memphis. Mizzou's otherwise decent defense has been exposed a few times against certain running attacks, too, so the expectation is that they might need to show a few new wrinkles.

FL, GA, LA produce highest percentage of FBS football players

Florida, Georgia and Louisiana hosted the best high school football in the country in 2014, according to one data set.

Those three states produced more FBS signees per capita than anywhere else in the United States as part of the 2015 class. (That’s according to participation data provided by the National Federation of High School Sports and the reported number and hometown of signees from every FBS program.)

It’s no surprise that SEC-affiliated states by far produced more FBS players in the 2015 class than anywhere else. States with at least one SEC football team claim nine of the top 16 spots in the per-capita rankings.

Florida (1 in 104), Georgia (1 in 133) and Louisiana (1 in 152) produced talent at a big-time rate, while Texas sent a nation-best 459 players to schools on an FBS football scholarship.

North Dakota and Washington did not report data.

South Carolina (No. 16), Kentucky (No. 26) and Missouri (No. 30) were the only SEC states that finished outside the Top 15 in the ratio of high school football players to FBS signees.

Vermont, Alaska and Montana didn’t produce a single FBS football player in the 2015 class. With 1,332 high school football players in 2014, Vermont saw the fewest number of prep football players in the country.

A total of 2,946 players signed with FBS schools in the 2015 class, while 1,093,234 players from 14,263 high schools participated in 11-man football.

Following information covers 2002-2013 signing classes for SEC schools. I found a number of players that failed to complete their eligibility at that school. Failures were counted for: players getting dismissed, failing school, transfers, just quit playing football or unknown reasons. If players left school early for NFL, I do not count them as failing to complete eligibility. Last updated 2/14/2015

Vanderbilt is even IN the SEC? Cannon fodder for a sure win to other SEC teams.
