Players don't do hometown discounts. Will be interesting to see if Elvis opts out after this season.Once that happens they let them walk, or trade them, unless they give a hometown discount.

can you enlighten me on who we did that with. I know several that achieved success afterwards
didn't both chose to move on. I know most were happy to see Cruz leaveJosh Hamilton, Nelson Cruz

They got a discount from LeClerc, the last two days notwithstanding and signed him. They couldn't get a discount in their mind from Profar so they traded him. They probably felt at the time that they got a slight discount from Odor.can you enlighten me on who we did that with. I know several that achieved success afterwards
They chose to move on when the Rangers didn't offer market price for them.didn't both chose to move on. I know most were happy to see Cruz leave

They blew it with Cruz twice.Very weird market on Cruz back then and only a one year deal to recreate market. This is one of the cases when hindsight is 20/20. Crawler - incredibly stupid may be a bit of a hyperbole
The window was slammed shut when we lost Hamilton, Cruz, and Napoli. Unless they were going to really spend heavily in the offseason after 2013 the window was nailed shut. They didn't. They should have started rebuilding then and that was foresight 5 and a half years ago.To me the biggest beef with contracts has to be the length of contract with Choo and Fielder. Both had good intent though thinking our window was open. Injury bug hit though and they doomed us

I love the hindsight card being played. Hindsight is 20/20, but foresight in some instances has been pretty good too.
When foresight is ignored the hindsight card is a really easy claim years later.

You have heard all the reasoning before and are still ignoring it. Blindfolds give very poor visuon.Ha... way to turn it. Of course no one blames JD for letting Ham walk. Now it seems smart but for the amount Cruz signed for less than QO. All teams passed minus one But all fingers point to TX
It doesn't matter if he does.Yu might disagree
They need to wait to see if young guys develop and then spend competitively to keep them when they do.

That is why I finished with "when they do." If they don't then we don't spend on them.Right!!! Or perhaps if they do
Lol. You know good and well the QO was a procedural thing. The real negotiating should have started later and it didn't. Bringing up the QO is purposely ignoring the real discussion. That has come up a dozen times or more since that offseason.Ouch
