It shouldn’t be a matter of like or dislike it should be what is he bringing physically to the team. I doubt if DFA’ed any other team would pick him up and we would be paying him anyway so make him an assistant hitting coach
Well, I meant liking him more as a player than we do.

Personally, I just don't want him on the roster and it doesn't matter to me if they DFA him or hide him on the 60-day. I mean, I don't dislike him personally or anything so that it would make me feel better to have him DFAed.

That first MRI somehow missed it or they started him throwing too early. Or, it was close enough to being torn before that it was inevitable.

Oh well, we all knew this was a big possibility.

The challenge for deGrom and the Rangers will be finding the right balance in his pitching schedule, giving him off-days when necessary, playing the long game. Insuring his five-year, $185 million contract would have been prohibitively expensive, according to sources who were granted anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. The premiums might drop if he stays healthy for an extended period, but the way deGrom’s option year is structured, it gives the Rangers a measure of insurance on the back end.

The option will be the team’s choice if from 2023 to ‘26 deGrom has Tommy John surgery on his right elbow or any right elbow or shoulder injury that causes him to be on the IL for any period of 130 consecutive days during any season or 186 days in a row during any service period.

The option would convert to deGrom’s choice if none of those conditions are met, he pitches at least 160 innings in 2027, finishes among the top five in Cy Young voting and an independent doctor determines he is likely to be healthy for the start of the 2028 season.

Short version is we get another year of at the going rate

After Bradford, who will be the next option internally. Otto? Eagans? Maybe Kent comes back and pitches well. Maybe Owen White is lights out for 4 or 5 starts and his name enters the discussion.

That's not what I said...
I know. In a trade we would eat most his remaining salary and get MiLB fodder in return. My point is that he’s being pretty much a bench coach for the young guys for several weeks so why not use him as that and get him off the 40-man

Well the other logical name would be Ragans. Once we’ve added a couple of solid relievers send him down to stretch him out at AAA
