No. They shouldn't count. Be it transfers as sophomores or later.

The 5th year system is starting to be heavily abused by the athletics before academics schools. It's becoming another tool for college programs to treat their rosters like its the NFL (signing vets to 1 year FA deals) just to plug depth holes in their rosters.

And because of this, many schools won't accept these 5th year senior transfers as the only reason they're on campus is to play sports and end up in joke classes like ballroom dancing and sports marketing. The admins of the schools have made it clear to the coaches they won't accept these 5th year senior transfers.

"the only reason they're on campus is to play sports" Sadly that can be said about a good percentage of players.

I agree with the fact that it's intent was good but now being abused by schools.

I think they should count. Seems like a way to skirt scholarship limits. Out of schollies, but need to plug a hole at a position of need? Find yourself a 5th year senior transfer.

how so? they still count against the school total scholarships if they offer them one.

Well, if he's a 5th year player he's not getting recruited( in the true sense of the word) he's not going to be there past this year so he's really not part of a recruiting class.

My bad. I thought the premise was that they didn't count against the scholarship limits.

I think the class rankings are based on kids that are going to be at the school for 3-4 years. I think the rankings are as much a projection of what that team will be like in 3-4 years as they are a ranking of where they are now. A 5th year senior transfer isn't going to be there in 3-4 years.

Why are people worried about class rankings anyway? It's entirely arbitrary. There isn't just one and they tend to be way off from one service to another.

I wouldn't say entirely arbitrary. Maybe not a lot of difference between the top 5 and many not a lot of difference between the 8 -15 and 15-25 and 30-60 but if there's a consensus that a school has four years of 25 recruits and they have a class average of 2.8 you're not going to compete with Alabama or Ohio state and anyone in the top ten. I do agree if you filled holes with decent players you might be in better shape than a school who got a class rated a little higher. USC got 1 five star and one four star more than UCLA but UCLA got 8 more three stars. USCs players average higher because they got 20 to UCLAs 29 but it might be equal or even better for UCLA down the road. Maybe a few of those three stars play like four stars. So you could flop their ranking and probably by just as right.

I dont know if thats accurate either. I mean Oregon has had like 2 top 10 classes maybe ever and has made it to the NC 2 times should have been another and could have been 1 more. they can compete with top 10 teams even did with Auburn in the NC (Ohio State for like a half)

Oregons been an outliar. They ran a system that didnt use the same type of players. Same with the Baylor and TCUs. There are few schools who can recruit in the 10-20 range and still contend for a title. Notice these schools came close but it was still the Ohio State Alabama LSU and Florida who have won the most since USCs run ended. All of those recruit at least three classes in the top ten the four years before their titles.

UCLA and other PAC schools were all pursuing, but he shut things down early. 4-star QB Dylan McCaffrey, the younger brother of Christian, and reported to be even more freakishly gifted, has committed to Michigan.

I think the Beavers and the rest of the crappy PAC members should get 15 more schollies/year than those elite PAC4 for the next 10 years AND a higher cash infusion as well. You know who you are.

eat shit-n-die on that "#BuildingTheDam" garbage....
