Wasn't UW the last Pac team that had a dominant defense and actually accomplished something? Our Palouse Posse won 8 games.
Furd has had the best defense in the conference for some time, but hasn't had the offense to go with it since Luck left and even with Luck they didn't win it all, but USC had some D back in their run, even if it was the offense that got the glory. Still, yes the '91 UW D was probably the last time a defensive dominated team won it all in the conf. All the more reason why building that unit up for any of our teams could give them an edge.

I'd love to go back to having that kind of defense. As much as we all love TD's and long passes, there is nothing like getting a crowd all fired up like smash mouth defenses and big time hits/sacks. Sadly, as much as we don't have confidence in our OC, we may have to rely on our D to get anywhere whether that unit becomes dominate or not.

Well ya having a great defense is awesome but our conference always needs an above average. If we had an average QB we would have won the 94 NC

That depends on how you define run. Lossington fans do not define when Oregon's run began or when it ends.

The arrival of Mike Bellotti in 1989 was the beginning of Oregon's success...Prior to that we were a PAC cellar dweller for a couple decades.

:spit:

1989?!? Seriously?

In 1989 Oregon went 8-4. The next 3 years, Oregon was 8-4, 3-8, 6-6 and 5-6. The earliest you can truly claim Oregon's success starting is 1994 when they went 9-4 and finished #11, then in 1995 they went 9-3 and finished #18.

However, they that followed with seasons of 6-5, 7-5 and 8-4.

Then in 1999 Oregon finished ranked #18, #8 and #2.

They followed that by finishing unranked in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

Most people look at Oregon's run beginning in 1999 at the earliest and many don't credit the run starting until 2005.

So I did this a couple times last season but I dont remember when I started but half way point seems logical.
How each team can win their division or are already eliminated.
North
Stanford can afford to lose 1 game as long as it is not to either Cal or WSU. Stanford needs to beat them in order to keep the tie breaker. If they lose to Wash, colorado or Oregon the still win the N.
Cal needs to beat Stanford and win out.
WSU needs to beat Stanford and win out.
Oregon needs to win out which would give them the tie break over Cal and Stanford but also need Stanford to lose one more. they need WSU to lose 2 more games.
Washington needs to win out which gives them the tie break over WSU and Stanford but needs Stanford to lose one more. they need Cal to lose 2 more games. they need Oregon to lose 1 more.
Oregon State needs to win out which gives them the tie break over Oregon and Washington as well as Cal but also needs Cal to lose 1 more. they need Stanford to lose 4 games. they need WSU to lose 3 games.

South
Utah Can aford 1 loss. They can aford 2 loses as long as going to -2 doesnt leave them in a tie with Arizona, UCLA or USC.
Arizona Needs to win out which would give them a tie break over Utah but need them to lose 1 more. They need UCLA to lose 1 more game as well.
Arizona State Needs to win out and have Utah lose 3 games and need USC to lose 1 more.
UCLA Needs to win out which would give them the tie break over Utah but needs them to lose 1 more. they need Arizona State to lose 1 more.
USC Needs to win out which gives them the tie break over Utah but needs them to lose 1 more.
Colorado Needs to win out which gives them the tie break over Utah but needs them to lose 2 more. tie break on USC but needs them to lose 1 more. tie break on UCLA but needs them to lose 1 more. Needs both Arizona State and Arizona to lose 2 more each.

Just to reference, the years we call the "dark ages" for Alabama, 2000-2007 here is our record:

2000: 3-8
2001: 7-5
2002: 10-3
2003: 4-9
2004: 6-6
2005: 10-2
2006: 6-7
2007: 7-6 (Saban's first year).

These were considered some of the worst years in our history and still featured 2 10 win seasons in 8 years.

Everyone likes to point to the Pick as the change in Oregon football, but it was the hiring of Bellottit in 1989 that transformed Oregon football.

Prior to Bellotti's arrival we were pretty damn awful. We basically had one good year from the late 60s until 1989 and that wss only because of Reggie Ogburn.

Totally agree - I said a few pages back that 89 was the beginning. First bowl appearance and win in 25 years and Phil Knight became involved. It was the 1st gear of the transformation of the program. 5 years later their PAC Championship began the 2nd gear. 2001 finished 2nd in the country began the 3rd gear. Playing Auburn in the Natty the Ducks put it into 4th gear. Time will tell if the transmission is blown or will the program shove it into 5th gear. Recruiting remands strong there is a ton of young talent. What remains to be seen is if this current coaching staff can finish what was started back in 1989.

'94 is when Oregon started turning the corner, but I wouldn't say that is part of the run.

Meh fine line 14-7 and a whole lot of punting doesnt really excite me either.
I can appreciate good defense, but I can also appreciate good offense. A 6-3 game, though, really doesn't float my boat.

When you came back from your 'break' you let down that shtick for a minute and proved you didn't have to be a total douche 24/7. We get that your season has been a train wreck and you are still high on this, but grow up dude. There are half a dozen threads you can still go jizz in over that game. Some of the rest of us want to talk football.

So, if WSU beats Stanford, they go to the PAC championship game?

Oh hell yeah. I wanna see that! The Pirate, on national TV, looking lost and calling fake punts on his own 30 on fourth and 8, just like the old days at TT. :pound:

Yeah, I think most PAC fans know that Oregon started to truly change in '94 and that the true/current run started in 1999. Despite the less than stellar years in '02, '03 and '04, we knew that things were changing for the better beginning in '99. They really took off in '05 and haven't really looked back since.

First things first, ESPN has hinted that if WSU beats Arizona this week they might bring gameday to the Palouse. Let's start with the pirate hosting CGD on Halloween. I mean how perfect is that? :noidea:
