Didn't know we were going back that far. UW's title run was all about the D as well and that was '91. I was thinking a bit more recent lol.

You said during their run - their run began in 1989 with the their first bowl appearance and win in 25 years.

Since it looks like at least a couple of ducks are seemingly more open to normal discussions now I have to ask what happened to the turbo mode offense? I was surprised at how much slower this version of the the hurry up was than the last couple we saw at Husky stadium. I mean I know Mariota was able to keep growing with it, but it looks slower now than even when he was a rookie.

They still look like they can move the ball, but they aren't wearing out defenses and aren't getting up to that 100 plays a game range.

What's your take on it?

My guess is Adams gets confused if they go too fast...

Oregon hasn't needed a scary defense over their run. That offense was so deadly it didn't really matter. Not saying they always had the kinds of issues they have now. Clearly they are missing Aliotti more than they thought they would, but Stanford and USC have had more fearsome D's over that span.

Oregon has had a decent defense over their run with a couple that could have even been called good. The issue is with the way Oregon's offense is built the defense is going to be on the field for a lot of the game if things are going at their desired speed. That means they have to play a style that allows yardage but limits points and big plays. Until this year they had the secondary to pull it off, this year the cupboard was pretty much empty of experienced players and they've been getting schooled a ton.

Mariota was special, no doubt. I think the first problem is Adams was super late getting to the team and is probably still learning the system even now. His getting hurt let Lockie in. I think it says a lot that Adams was named the starter after about a week after reporting, both about him and Lockie. We've seen why in Lockie's starts this year. He may know the system but his reading of defenses and arm strength both leave a bit to be desired.

It's just this version of Oregon's HUNH looked a lot more like Sark's first year running it than their normal, only with much more dangerous athletes of course. It was noticeably slower.

No one views your 'run' as that long. No one. But if you are going to get hung up on such things you aren't one of the reasonable duck fans I'm talking to anyway so carry on.

Everyone is going to view their own in better light than other fans. I said they didn't suck, they just weren't as scary as the elite defenses. That's just personal opinion. IMO Stanford has had the top defense in the conference for some time now and it's not even close.

Agreed they are running much slower than the last few years. I think that's just how they are going to be with the players they have this year. They will continue to lean on Freeman and that will slow things down as, while he can break one, he is a good between the tackles RB and big plays are a bit harder to come by that way. I think if Adams can stay healthy for the rest of the season it may speed up as he gets in better rhythm with his receivers.
