I'll admit I'm clearly biased, but I think that UW has the PAC-12's best stadium. Even the old stadium could put up a fight, simply because of the location and scenery of the area. You seriously can't beat a stadium right on the water with that scenery. Also, ever since I was a little kid I always thought there was something so imposing about those giant upper deck bleachers. Sort of like two giant skyscrapers full of people screaming at you on both sides.

It's somewhat stadium unrelated, but the UW campus is one of my favorite places in the world, for me it's an amazing and relaxing place with all the beautiful buildings, I have a deep appreciation for modern and classical architecture.

I have to imagine Oregon being ranked higher is largely influenced by their success over the past decade. I think the Coliseum is a little underrated. I've always admired USC and I think their stadium is pretty cool too.

I looked through them all in the article and from a non-pac person I think Husky Stadium is the one I would pick to visit if I only had one choice (of course I have been to the Rose Bowl so that affects my decision).

There was a time when the Coliseum was possibly the coolest venue in the PAC. Problem was, the Coliseum Commission, which was in charge of the place, could never agree on anything beyond the most basic maintenance. USC begged them for upgrades for years (even presenting a blueprint of what the improvements should be) but the CC still couldn't manage to get anything done. So, it fell into a bit of disrepair because the CC couldn't even agree on painting the damn thing, much less make any improvements.

Then USC said: "Look, let us pay for the upgrades then". Even with USC making that offer, it still took the CC several more years to agree to that. USC finally got control of the Coliseum prior to last season and has started working on upgrades and have many more planned. They sent an e-mail to thousands of alumni, fans, season ticket holders, etc. (basically, if USC had your e-mail address on file, you got the e-mail) with quite a few questions for input on the upgrades.

It has a ways to go, but once the upgrades are complete, it should be up there with most other venues in the PAC. They are looking to bring the Coliseum into modern times while maintaining the historic aspect of the place.

So does USC own the Coliseum outright now and have full control?

Funny because it's never toward another duck, only those bringing up things about the ducks.

Anal.

False I have corrected other Ducks in reguards to both Oregon and other teams.

its just easier to correct others about the Ducks because I know more about them than other teams off hand.

If I know it or think it to be false I will look it up

From the article
"General atmosphere, fan support, home-field advantage, amenities, tailgating, the surrounding campus and the college town should all be considered when trying to rank college football stadiums."

I think a few things that jump out why Oregon would be ranked higher would be home field advantage and the college town part.
Oregon has the highest % of home wins over the last 5 years nationally.
Unless I am in the U district I dont get as much of a college town vibe. especially since the Seahawks won the superbowl. You still see UW stuff all over the place, just not as much as seahawks and then whatever team is in season. right now more Mariners and Sounders gear. but overall just the fact that its a bigger city takes away that college town vibe.

From the way I read the article I dont think those last couple pictures count toward rating the stadium. I think it was more of from a public standpoint. so the locker rooms and weight room probably werent factored in. (those are pretty nice though)

None of that has anything to do with game day atmosphere. Nothing. Seattle is a football town and always has been. They support other sports when they are competitive, but have always been rabid football fans.

We all said the only reason Oregon is listed higher is those other parts. The stadium itself, and the setting, do not warrant first place.

If 'college town' were the only criteria than WSU wouldn't be dead last. There isn't anything else within 50 miles of Pullman outside of dead animal caucuses on the road from all of their drunk students. It doesn't get any more college town than that.

Kinda like you on the stadium thread :L

In what way?

That just might be the dumbest post on the hoop for the day. Congrats on that.

I mean you are comparing someone having a different opinion to someone spending a lot of time digging up 'facts' to dump all over someone? You do get that those are entirely different things right? Well, maybe not. Ducks fans aren't the brightest bulbs in the lighrbright box.

Oh Seattle's a great football town. I went to a Seahawks vs. Giants game a few years back and left with my ears bleeding. The stadium was literally shaking from the crowd noise.

As I mentioned eariler I have not been to Husky Stadium, but I've seen the photos and it looks incredible. Before Washington went out and kicked Boise's ass in last year's opener, my folks were there pregaming on Lake Washington on a yacht with the other boats and said it was something else. I need to get to a game. It's on my short list.

Yeah, sailgating is a unique experience and that was the time to do it. Not nearly the same in later season games when it's raining and frigid lol.

I don't believe they own it, but they have full control over all of the upgrades, etc. If memory serves, USC offered to buy it, but that was rejected in favor of ceding control to USC.

I love coming across old threads/posts on this site sometimes. This exchange is amazing.

So you're a trash talking blind homer...
Gotcha.
You aren't very old are you? You weren't around pre-2000 I suppose.
It would make sense. Those of us who have been around a while can recall the lean times and know that acting like a UDud fan from the 80s and 90s isn't cool.

I was there for our birth. You were 6. You remember that or you've seen it enough times and heard the stories?
I get you love our Ducks but that love doesn't have to translate into being a jerk about the little success we've enjoyed recently.

I remember way back to Chris Miller and before. When I thought the fight song was "Louie Louie" and the stands were less than half full. When the '89 Independence bowl was a really big deal.

New Duck fans = old fuskies and look where they are now
I drove down to the games in the mid and late 80s and could just get a ticket at the stadium.
So it would seem Donkey and I agree about the modern Duck fan and how they have come full circle. Only I would suggest they are FAR worse than what they say UW fans were like in the 90's. And it isn't even close. They have become all that they mocked and scoffed at. 10000% so. To this day they still say they hate UW fans more than anything else in life and why? Right, so when you get a chance to turn the tables you do what you said was shitty and even do it worse. :laugh3:

God I love the irony of duckberg. There's a lot more of it in that thread, and a few other places around this site, but that's enough for now.

Imo, this is the biggest thing that takes away from the atmosphere at USC. Los Angeles has 5 professional sports franchises within the city limits and 2 more about 45 minutes away. Makes it kind of hard to build that "college town" feel.

That sucks because owning and "having control" two different things if you guys owed it you could go over the top renovating it and in the LA market no telling what kind of venues you could book beyond USC events. Sounds to me like the municipality wants their cake and eat it to.

I believe that part of the issue is that the Coliseum is considered a historical monument. I don't think there's much that USC won't be able to do to upgrade though. A lot of what they are looking at doing is pretty huge and right there with the trends that we are seeing with stadiums being built to create an over the top fan experience.

Yankee Stadium was a historical monument also...we have pictures that is enough.

True. But what USC is planning will ultimately pretty much rip the guts out of the place, but maintain that historical aspect of it that has always been pretty cool. Believe me, if USC just completes 50% of what is planned, it will be a really cool place to see a game. If they complete all of it, it'll be in the running for one of the best venues in the PAC (although it'll never have Washington's view).

Another cool thing is that it is literally across the street from the campus. Makes for a great day when going to a game. Once everything is completed, it's supposed to have all of the stuff that modern stadiums have while maintaining that "retro" look and feel.

Really, the only other option is tearing the place down and rebuilding an entire new stadium which would be considerably more expensive.
