Gotta say a MCL sprain is a beast no matter the level. I had a level 1 ski racing in my teens and raced the next race (downhill) I could not cut on my right leg for the drop over the hump on the course. It hurt like hell. I then had a class three in the other leg during lacrosse in high school, had to put down the long stick and play goalie for the next 3 games, eventually had to sit the rest of the season. In college I had a class 2 and a class 3 of the MCL during rugby, player through with medical treatment and a brace, I have never been the same.

I give MM props for even taking the field after his injury. Vita, I know Hundley is a stud (would take him over Hogan TBH), but if you look at his numbers last year in one game vs. Stanford vs two games the year before he slumped, though I attribute much of that to the UCLA line being brutalized. Vita, how is the line looking this year?

BTW I am 3 drinks in so forgive me the grammar and spelling errors I am sure are embedded in this.

I think I got a level 1 eye socket strain just trying to read the last page or so.

Jesus you two.

Now a strain is different from a sprain however it MM throws a few early picks in the season this year look for mamba et al Duck fans to throw that excuse in there too! :laugh3:

Hey I think the world of MM and I think the dude is smart enough to not risk the $$ by playing with an actual MRI diagnosed tear of the MCL. That can lead real quick to a tear of the ACL and even tears in the LCL and PCL, why would he do that? :noidea:

I'm guessing Hundley, like any other QB will flourish with a running attack and better OL play. Injuries plagued us in these areas, like you I'm sure his performance and development was probably hindered to some degree. That is one reason why I thought it was wise for Brett to stay another year. He needed time to continue to develop his game whereas MM has pretty much sealed his fate in a move to the NFL and may only fall in the bigger scheme of things. The Ducks are at a turning point this year with Helfrich heading into his second year, much like Shaw was a year or so ago with the Trees. It's not an easy task and most will agree Shaw is the exception will it be the same for Helfrich, only time will tell. If not let's get a suicide watch thread here on the hoop, as much as we like to raze these guys I wish them all a better fate than that!

As for our OL we are in much better shape than last year. Benenoch has bulked up quite a bit and is reportedly much stronger. He should transition to LT nicely. Also CJM has gone on quite a bit about redshirt freshman Moala and sophomore Lacy. The depth added to the OL this year will add a new wrinkle or two and provide Hundley with more time in the pocket for the vertical game, or that is the plan. The results remain to be seen.

I've also heard a lot of noise about the Bruins WR corp. They could rival AZ's WR corp with a little protection from the OL now and again, however this is just what I've read. I did see a clip from Hundley and he is real excited from working with this group. More so I am excited to have a healthy Jordan James in the back field with Hundley, along with Thigpen and Manfro, barring injury we should have a pretty balanced attack going offensively this season.

:heh:
You do remember that game right mamba? Y'all were suppose to do that, and your 8-0 Ducks were putting everyone away until then by the third quarter however the 5-2 Bruins on a back to back roadie after a getting punched in the mouth by the Trees a week prior were hanging tough. As a matter of fact it took a fake punt to get you guys going in the first half! Still just a TD away by the end of the third your Ducks pulled away with a huge 4th quarter in Autzen.

No doubt about it, we were too young and injured to step up vs your Ducks in that moment but time changes things.

Getting you in the Rose Bowl this year could be the ticket. IDK because you all have been one of the best teams in the country for some time now but I've just got this feeling the tide may be turning for both of our schools. Will it be this year? :noidea:. Again only time will tell so good luck to you and your Ducks, however if we come away with a win in Pasadena this year, I as many others wont be surprised. We will be pleased and grateful but we wont be surprised.

Sorry bro but like you I'm not going to let anyone tread over my team either. The big difference, I'm the lone voice in the wilderness here on the hoop standing up for mine.

I did try to take the bait and move away from the bravado with some prodding from SUBuddha although it didn't last very long! :laugh3:

Grade 1 few fibers torn, less 10-15%
Grade 3 full rupture
Grade 2 anywhere in between.
stretching is still going to cause minor microscopic tears to the tissue/ligament.

MCL Tear - Medial Collateral Ligament Injuries

  • Grade I MCL Tear
This is an incomplete tear of the MCL. The tendon is still in continuity, and the symptoms are usually minimal. Patients usually complain of pain with pressure on the MCL, and may be able to return to their sport very quickly. Most athletes miss 1-2 weeks of play.
  • Grade II MCL Tear
Grade II injuries are also considered incomplete tears of the MCL. These patients may complain of instability when attempting to cut or pivot. The pain and swelling is more significant, and usually a period of 3-4 weeks of rest is necessary.
  • Grade III MCL Tear
A grade III injury is a complete tear of the MCL. Patients have significant pain and swelling, and often have difficulty bending the knee. Instability, or giving out, is a common finding with grade III MCL tears. A knee brace or a knee immobilizer is usually needed for comfort, and healing may take 10-12 weeks.
MCL Sprain | Medial Collateral Ligament Injury treatmet and rehab
As with all ligament injuries, medial collateral ligament injuries are graded 1, 2 or 3 depending on the degree of damage sustained. A grade one tear consists of fewer than 10% of the fibres being torn. a grade 3 is a complete rupture and grade two sits inbetween!

MCL Tear: Symptoms, Diagnosis & Treatment
Grade 1 Tear

1) What is it: A few of the fibres (less than 10%) are damaged
2) Symptoms: It is usually tender on the inner side of the knee especially when any pressure is put through the region and bruising/swelling may develop over the first couple of days

Despite playing sports my entire life, the worst injury I ever had was probably when I broke my thumb nail off in batting practice. I don't think the pain was that bad, it was mostly the shock of seeing half of my numb nail hanging off. I managed to play hard without getting injured, I was pretty lucky.

deal with this JACK!

Oly to the rescue.
So this link states it a bit different than the link I provided.

Who the freak cares? :noidea:

It's just medical nomenclature and it's obviously subjective if we both can find links to make our points.

Look mamba, you said he played with a torn MCL which to most infers a rupture of the ligament. So if less than 10 percent constitutes a torn MCL than I guess you are less than 10 percent right which makes me over 90 percent right!

Deal with that Jack!

Dude it was YOUR link which reported he had a 'partial sprain' of the MCL. Usually when an MCL injury is described as a sprain it is referring to a stretching of the ligaments and when an MCL is torn it is referring to a rupture of the ligaments.
There are four main ligaments in the knee that can become injured. During injury, a knee ligament may be stretched (sprained), or sometimes torn (ruptured). Ligament rupture can be partial (just some of the fibres that make up the ligament are torn) or complete (the ligament is torn through completely). Knee ligament injuries can cause pain, swelling, tenderness, bruising and reduced movement of your knee. Your knee joint may feel unstable and you may walk with a limp. Treatment of a knee ligament injury can depend on a number of things including which ligament is injured and how sporty and active you are.Knee Ligament Injuries. Knee Pain After Running | Patient.co.uk
Good stuff oly, however if you look up 'tears' you will find info on 'tears', however the injury was reported as a partial sprain and not a tear.

The bottom line here is you guys are making my point. MM was a little banged up, all dudes who play at this level will more than likely play a little banged up every now and then but to suggest that was the reason he 'regressed' in his play is no more than making excuses for the man.

Just STOP with the excuses, it's weak!!!

There are no asterisks next to the INT's or reduction in TD's due to this 'torn' MCL he suffered a month prior:laugh3:

mamba to now change the subject to Duckberg wins ova da Bruins in 4............... 3................. 2.................... 1

^ There's my boy Mannion! Hell, look at that throwing arm, fully extended and ready to fire another missile.

all that experience @ QB in the PAC makes the conference a gauntlet this year more so than any year I can remember.

Whoever from the PAC makes it to the CFP will be battle tested.

What a great year for ASU to lose 3/4 of its secondary and all of their pass rushers...
