Mets
Why they need a splash:
The Dodgers got Ohtani. The Yankees got Soto. The Mets … crickets. This is a New York team that needs to make a big move to get back on the level of its big-market rivals. The Mets need a star who can jump-start a turnaround back into World Series contenders. And not a short-term guy, either. It has to be someone who can open up a multi-year window of contention.

How they could make one: Yoshinobu Yamamoto. It has to be Yamamoto. There's a case the Mets should've been in on Ohtani, even though they weren't, since Ohtani's return to being a two-way player in 2025 would've lined up with New York's 2024 "bridge year" plans. There's a case they should've tried to trade for Soto, too -- since he's, you know, a 25-year-old future Hall of Famer -- if not for the uncertainty of locking him up with an extension before he hits free agency next winter. But those ships have sailed. And there's only one big ship left: Yamamoto. He's as young as Soto, 25. He was even better than Kodai Senga in Japan, and Senga was a Cy Young contender in his Mets debut. Yamamoto has ace potential for way beyond just 2024, and he's Step 1 in putting the Mets back on the map. He's the rare pitcher who just might be able to fill the shoes of a deGrom or Verlander or Scherzer in Queens.

Also.....
I wouldn't mind this at all...

Dec.15: Mets pursuing reunion with Turner?
Could the Mets and veteran infielder Justin Turner be a match this offseason? According to a report in the New York Post, the club is actively engaged with Turner on a potential reunion.

Turner, who played for the Mets from 2010-13, could be a good fit in Queens because of his defensive versatility on the infield. And with the club's fourth-ranked prospect, Ronny Mauricio, injured with a torn ACL, there's a particular need at third base.

Turner was a below-average hitter during his first stint with the Mets, and New York did not tender him a contract following the 2013 season. He signed with the Dodgers and reworked his swing, leading to a career revival -- from 2014-22, he posted an .866 OPS with 156 home runs for Los Angeles, etching his name in franchise history with 13 postseason homers over that span.
In his age-38 campaign last season, Turner remained productive, joining the Red Sox and posting an .800 OPS with 23 home runs and 96 RBIs

Dec. 18: RHP Yohan Ramirez acquired from White Sox for cash considerations

Ramirez, 28, split the 2023 season between the White Sox and Pirates, combining to go 1-0 with a 4.23 ERA with 17 walks and 35 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings. The 6-foot-4, 212-pounder has appeared in 102 MLB games across four seasons with the Mariners, Guardians, Pirates and White Sox. He owns a 6-4 record with six saves, a 3.99 ERA, 69 walks and 128 strikeouts in 124 innings. Ramirez has held right-handed hitters to a .181 average in his career.

Dec. 14: OF Trayce Thompson, RHP Cam Robinson signed to Minor League deals, invited to big league Spring Training
Thompson spent the 2023 season with the Dodgers and White Sox, batting .163 with six homers and 17 RBIs. Robinson has never pitched in the Majors, but president of baseball operations David Stearns is familiar with him since he was drafted by the Brewers in the 23rd round of the 2017 MLB Draft. Last season, Robinson went 3-2 with a 5.33 ERA in 49 games.

I'm not sure where we go from here. I'm not crazy about Blake Snell but he's better than nothing.
