Interview with Maddux a few days ago. He knew the score re contract. He wants to manage. He is not content to be pitching coach. His prerogative and JD's to make a move. I see no evidence of an open ended offer with no time limit. Only surprise is Maddux maybe thinking Rangers would leave offer on table indefinitely
We don't know that he was thinking it would be left there indefinitely. Any reasonable person in his position would not think that. He just thought he had longer than he did. Maybe he was going to wait until a week from now. Who knows, but he certainly didn't expect it to be an indefinite option.

Who do you recommend replacing Mike that will be better? If he stays most likely Gregg does too. Nothing against Banny either. This was a fun loaded question.
HaHa. I guess you were the only one willing to have some fun with the question. I would probably pick Bogar and Maddux myself since it is all in fun.

Just speculating like everyone else, but I bet it was a little bit of both sides wanting to move in different directions. Daniels and Banister probably want a fresh perspective, and Maddux probably wants to manage.

If he wants to manage, I think that's cool. I respect that. It also means that he's not interested in a lateral move somewhere else. Maybe he figured it was just time to move on. But he really liked it in Texas. He raised his family here. And for someone who is as respected and in demand as he is, I don't think he would stay with the Rangers for 7 years if he didn't like it. So I doubt if there's any bad blood.

Banister probably wants some input on the next hire, and he should feel that way. We also don't know what Maddux was offered. Who knows?

Its only human nature to feel uneasy about change. But nothing stays the same, and Daniels has been making some pretty solid moves lately. Banister won a division title in his rookie season with a makeshift team. I trust Daniels will won't treat this lightly.

Maddux is a great guy and wish him well except when he is opposing the Rangers--then I hope he burns and dies. :D

Looking forward to seeing this kid develop over the next couple of years.

Keep in mind, he has to be added to the 40 man this offseason... If not, he could be Rule 5'd and gone.

Also, once on the 40, he has < 3 years to "develop". (those 3 years being his 3 option years)

Good read and really gives us some nice insight to what and whom he may chose.

I always like the idea of rewarding someone within our own system. But never at the expense of not getting the right person.

As long it's anyone but Mike Butcher I shouldn't be too upset. I would look into Jim Hickey from Tampa. Dude has been good for a while.

Our 40 man is going to be pretty crowded it seems. What's your take on this guy on being part of the mix?

I think they will find a way to put him on the 40. Although, I was surprised last year that they didn't protect Odubel Herrera.

Just wait till the end of next season. 5-6 that will NEED to be protected. With a few others that could be added.

I love being in a position where we've got so many talented players but can't keep em all.

If we really feel like we've got 4+ players who have terrific upside, and know aren't going to be able to fit them on our 40, sure sounds like some really great trade potential too me.

I have had that same thought many times before, but right off hand I can't think of us ever doing that.
