Played every team on NHL 15 this weekend. Based on the game & from what I've seen from the Flyers this preseason, I think the Flyers have to be the favorites to win the Metropolitan Division this season.

I think it's going to be pretty wide open. Honestly the only team I'd truly be shocked to see win the division would be the Canes. The Caps/Isles/Devils would all would go under 'surprising' if they won, but they have parts on those rosters that could make it happen, so I could see it. I think 1-7 is going to be quite close, with the Canes holding down #8.

NHL predictions 2014-15: Which team takes home the Stanley Cup this season? - SBNation.com

1. I don't understand the love for the Pens. They have nobody on the team that can prevent goals. Literally 0 people. Fleury sucks and every defender they have is either good at offense and terrible on defense, or they suck at both. And after Cros and Malkin, I don't think their forward core is very good either. All due respect to you Doob, I actually think the Pens are going to be terrible this year.

2. I'm a little surprised to see the Flyers at 7. But I'm not surprised to see them in the bottom half of the Metro. Their defense is going to be an adventure.

3. Picking awards like the Jack Adams might be the dumbest prediction in sports. You're trying to predict which team that everyone thinks will suck, won't suck. And then you're giving credit to the coach. But by saying you think they won't suck, you're eliminating them from 'everyone thinks they will suck'. So it's a vicious circle of stupid.

4. The West is so much better than the East. It's unreal. The Bruins might be the only top 10 NHL team in the East.

5. I also don't understand why people pick against their division rankings in the playoffs. For example, there's a few people that have the Bruins winning the division, but the Canadiens or Lightning winning the East. IMO, there's absolutely no reason to pick those differently in a preseason prediction. They're either the best and will win, or they are not the best and you should pick someone else. Seems silly to me.

6. Most importantly. Bring on hockey season!!!!!!!!!!!! :lm:

I agree with you awaz but the pens are a good regular season team. It just doesn't translate to the playoffs...but I can see them dropping off this year.

I think that the Flyers will be in the mix this year the D will be by committee but should be OK if the forwards help.

True, it is a wide open division. Like what the Islanders did this offseason. Capitals look improved as well. Devils could've been a playoff team last season if only they could win a shootout.

Hey boys. I'm watching the NHLN now and listening about the Sens ownership situation and what to think about Bobby Ryan. Does anyone think Ryan will sign a long extension sometime during the season or after, or do you think the Sens may trade him at some point? I'd love to have him here and as our LW. I wonder if Hexy is observing the situation?

Yep. Like I said 1-7 I could see ending up in any order really. It wouldn't shock me to see any of them in 1st, or in 7th. The real curious part is who ends up in the playoffs.

I kinda thinkin Ryan is over rated. It's cool that he's from Philly and all, and he is a good player, but I think the combination has thrown folks in to a tizzy over him. I don't want the flyers paying a truck load to him to get him to sign. Or giving up prospects (or draft picks) to get him or his rights beforehand.

Yeah he's going to get a lot of money and I don't know if it'd be worth giving him that much

Yeah, Pens, Flyers, Rangers, Blue Jackets, Devils, Capitals, & Islanders all have a decent shot at taking the division this season. Really no standout team. Would only shock me if the Hurricanes win the division.

:agree: Flyers D is still pathetic. West is 10 fold above the East.:noidea:

Is the West really better than the East or are there 2 teams out West that are just better than everyone else in the NHL?

i think the kings, ducks, blues, and hawks are all better than everyone in the east. the bruins could be 5.

the east is going to be fun to watch though. I think outside of the bruins, every team has at least one glaring hole.

Yeah, but Bruins aren't perfect either, thought the Habs exposed them for being a slow team in the playoffs.

How about Simmonds being all feisty and then backing it up with a good offensive game.
