I did this on cap geek

1) I bought out Vinny the regular way instead of trading him with picks just to get his salary off the books
2) Traded Nicklas Grossmann to Edmonton

Then I signed Nikolai Kulemin for 3 million, Mike Kostka for 925k & Al Montoya for 800k and end up with $3,541,667 in cap space

Lines:
R.J. Umberger - Claude Giroux - Jake Voracek
Nikolai Kulemin - Brayden Schenn - Wayne Simmonds
Jason Akeson - Sean Couturier - Matt Read
Pierre-Edouard Bellemare - Scott Laughton - Michael Raffl
Jay Rosehill - Zac Rinaldo

Mark Streit - Andrew MacDonald
Kimmo Timonen - Braydon Coburn
Luke Schenn - Mike Kostka
Oliver Lauridsen

Steve Mason
Al Montoya

Looking at this lineup made me realize how bad we need a left winger.

ya.. moving hartnell makes some financial sense, but I expected them to draft a winger that they hoped would be NHL ready this season or next. they're extremely thin at LW now.

if anything, that lineup is about even with last years. I wouldn't say it's improved at all.

It's a process - maybe they still find someone in FA or trade

heh, I don't have faith in that improving the team either unfortunately. FA and trade is how you screw yourself over.

I just hope the young guys (hagg, morin, ghost, sanheim, etc) can start making an impact before Giroux starts to decline.

and to be honest, looking at the roster. I think I'm getting off the 'move vinny' bandwagon. I kinda think they need vinny at this point. where are the goals coming from on that roster? Giroux and Voracek can't score 70 a piece..

You guys have to realize, Hexy is putting his imprint on this team, it's hard to judge him and the team until you see the roster with his guys on it

People complained when Homer would sign guys to big contracts and have players who aren't fits on this team, let's wait and see what Hexy does, it's not about winning the Cup next year it's about being really good for many years to come and giving yourself that legitimate chance every year

Everyone that had a brain knew this would be a transition time for the Flyers, they still have a solid team but there is a bridge between the current group and some of the younger players(especially the d-men) that will come up in the next year or two - let's just wait this out and see what happens, there are guys on this roster who should be able to make the next step up(Michael Raffl, Jason Akeson, Brayden Schenn, Sean Couturier) so with those guys stepping up even more, there shouldn't be a big problem with finding offense

oh ya, I recognize the transition, don't get me wrong. that's why i wanted patience and no huge moves this off-season. my only thing is, with the roster the flyers had coming in to this summer, there's still no reason for them not to be competitive while they work on a rebuild. after trading hartnell, if you buy out lecavalier i just think you're getting rid of too much offense to stay competitive. unless you replace them with offensive threats. which would mean giving out a ridiculous contract because that's how FA works. and if you're gunna do that, you might as well have kept vinny and hartnell.

It would be nice to keep Vinny and have him play at a better level than last year I wish we had some way of knowing if it was really the injuries that made him play really bad a times.

I don't like doubting professional athletes' drive and desire, especially someone of Vinny's character. But part me can't help but wonder if he would play harder on a line with G and Jake. I know he doesn't like LW, but you'd have to think he would make it work to play with those guys. But again, he would drastically slow down that line at this stage in his career.

Volchenkov and McBain look like they're going to Ufa. Mcbain isn't a difference maker, but I've always liked his game for a 6/7 type guy. Volchenkov is obviously real solid, gunna be real expensive though.

Jamie McBain might not be bad, he played 20+ minutes per game in Buffalo(bad team though), as a 5-6 guy he'd be good and inexpensive

No to A-Train, I've loved him but he's too slow

My feeling is if we keep him I hope he plays better and if we get rid of him I hope we see the same Vinny that we saw last season for the most part.

I know the Preds are looking to get rid of DelZotto. Do we have any interest at all? He is only 24.
