So Berube will be fired and Vinny will be happy and not retire. I'd wait on firing Berube until we see who's available in the offseason. Regardless, Chief has to go.

however, one good thing that comes out of this. Carchidi looks like an idiot again for saying the decision on Berube would come out today. I like when that toolbag looks like an idiot.

Maybe Hextall knows no good, sane coach would want to come here with this dysfunctional roster...?

Seriously though, I still think Berube will be gone by July 1.

I don't think that's it. Coaches take over teams in much worse shape than the Flyers. They have 2 of the top 15 forwards in the league and a top 5 goalie. Plus a prospect pool on defense that is as good as any in the league.

I do think he's waiting to see if McClellan and/or Julien get the axe though. And I think he wants to see if Babcock is truly available. Kind of a dick move on Hexy's part to string Berube along, there's no way he's not done evaluating him. Hexy probably has a list of guys he'd prefer over Berube, and is waiting to see if any of them are available.

I agree with this

The only acceptable reason to have not canned him at this point is that they need to see who really is going to be available - I imagine in two weeks something might happen - by then Todd McClellan should know his fate, same with Claude Julien and I imagine Mike Babcock's offseason will start by then because I don't think Detroit will advance

Here's something for us to chew on for the summer:

Our last nine wins this season came against playoff-bound teams.

During that same stretch, we had nine losses to teams not playoff-bound.

It all just makes me come to the conclusion that we have the pieces in place to be a playoff team, just not the leadership, consistency and coaching to direct them there. Otherwise, I really think we could've made a run like Ottawa and gotten in. They had a similar stretch against playoff teams, but were also usually beating the inferior teams as well.

Furthermore, in those nine losses, we left 14 points on the table.

We missed the playoffs by 14 points.

This post is 100% on the money and id also like to add that it would be nice to win a shootout now and then.

Part of the shootout problem unfortunately is Mason. He is statistically one of the best goaltenders in the Nhl across the board, but he is well below average in the shootout.

Among the top 20 goalies in overall save percentage this season, he ranks 17th in shootout save percentage. We're not going to win many shootouts when our goalie is letting them score more than 40% of the time. I realize most of their sample sizes are a lot less, but 54 goalies in the Nhl stopped shooters from scoring that often.

After the first set of games, things are going according to plan!

Lightning lost (Early exit would help the pick for Coburn)
Blackhawks won (Deep run would help the pick for Timonen)
Pens lost (I just love when the Pens lose)

Don't really care about anybody else.

Watching the ducks/jets game.. The flyers don't have the speed to play games like this.

I always thought that but when we played the Hawks at the end of the year we skated the whole game with them. That has blown my mind how we can be fast 1 game and look like we are skating in cement the next.
