An unnamed source has told Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network that Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has told his staff to look at any and all possible options to acquire University of Florida offensive lineman Mike Pouncey. Pouncey’s twin brother Maurkice was drafted by the Steelers in 2010 and turned in a Pro Bowl-caliber season.
The dual Pouncey system certainly worked for the Florida Gators, as the duo helped the Gators to an SEC and National Championship, and Tomlin will hope to recreate similar success at the next level.
Pouncey is an elite offensive lineman in this class and barring a miracle, will not fall to the Steelers at No. 31. However, there are more than a few teams that would be willing to trade with the Steelers, and La Canfora suggested that Miami, San Diego, the New York Giants, and Tampa Bay are all likely suitors
I picked Heyward at that spot in the mock draft. He fits perfect across down the line from Ziggy as the future of that D line. He is also the best talent available at a position of need for them. Solid pick, as always.
It was a great pick. Excellent value, and I'm kind of surprised heyward made it through to that spot in the draft. Especially with the amount of teams that run the 34, and he has already had experience with that defense at osu.
