what if you swing the club and miss the ball completely ? do you count it as a stroke or concider it a practice swing? or does it all depend on if anyone that is in your group seen you miss the ball ?

I count a whiff as a stroke, though I only do that once every couple of yrs. I never shave strokes, because I approach the game as playing against MYSELF, no matter who I'm there with.

My last whiff was in May, when the course was a swamp; the rough was so deep, my club head went completely UNDER the ball, without touching it.

but what if you just walk up and swing with out saying Hi ball how are you today... you didnt address the ball or even acknowledge its existance..
