Why can't they add a retractable roof to the current park? I heard a price around 70 million once, much cheaper than building a whole new stadium.
70 million? It would be retrofitted this off season if someone could do it that cheaply.

Ya know, as good as oakland is, I still find them to be the most boring team that we play in our division due to stadium/fans/players. Yes, this includes houston. At least their park is fun

Houston sucks, I hate that place

But yeah I'd say the Mariners probably have the best, if the Rangers had the same roof setup I'd say it would be a pretty even fight, I love the Ballpark, but the heat is a killer for that place

I heard you can blame ex-owner, governor, and POTUS for our heat stroke inducing ballpark. When the rangers new ballpark was built, George bush made sure it wasn't a dome or a retractable roof.

Don't agree about Houston, pretty lousy experiences the times that I've gone

At the time it was built, the retractable roof technology was cost prohibitive and would not have made it aesthetically pleasing, which was one of the goals behind building the new park

It wasn't until afterwards that the technology was good enough to make it worthwhile

Give it another 5 years. I love the temple, but it's 20 years old next year, and I can see a push for a new home happening.

I agree. I love RBIA but if I was ownership I would push to build a retractable roof ballpark in Downton Dallas and have the DART station right next to it so a lot of fans can take the rail. Even in down years attendance wouldn't be as bad as they were in the mid 2000's.

Yep. Technically because of cost it's not doable. If they were to do it then it would be the cost of building a brand spanking new ballpark with a retractable roof so ya the only time it will happen is when they're ready to get a new park.

ehh... im not a big fan of taking away a stadium in arlington. im perfectly fine with a new one, just dont make it in downtown dallas. i just dont think the texas rangers should play in dallas. its just not them. also dont make ticket prices outrageous in a new stadium either like they are for the cowboys

Arlington would never let Dallas steal TEX away. Dallas city and county governments spent months trying to put together a Cowboy stadium proposal. Bickering back and forth between governments wasted Jerry's time. Arlington came in and made a proposal one morning and by noon the deal was done. Downtown stadium with considerable traffic issues would fail to attract fans from the rest of the metroplex just because of the difficulty of getting to/from a downtown park.

When it comes time to replace RBIA the process favors the development oriented Arlington government putting the deal together. Sports/entertainment venue track record does not favor Dallas being able to compete against Arlington.

can, but i think one of the west teams wont. like i said i really hope im wrong. i have a bad feeling about it.

We have to remember the Indians have plenty of games left against the Tigers and Royals. That is going to "even things out" a bit. Same thing in the AL East. The Rays, Boston, and Baltimore all have plenty of games left against each other. There will be a blending of wins and losses there as well. The A's and Rangers have 6 remaining games and I am sure those will most likely split. So there is more to 'lose' with regards to the WC and the AL East and AL Central.

The A's payroll is paltry and yet they put out a winner sometimes. I can respect that. May not like them, but I'd take them just about any day over the Angels. I have great disdain for the Halos. Basically been Yankeeing themselves for the better part of a decade, overspending and acting like all that. Really really despise the Angels. And you can bet the Texas Rangers are enemy#1 to Arte Moreno.

I expect Arte to try to squash any players we try to pick up by the waiver deadline.

Ive been to all the AL West (minus the noob Stros) parks and several others.

Mariners have the best I have seen.

Take a visit to Minute Maid Park. Nice stadium. Just make sure you park in the designated areas next to the stadium. Then again, you being an A's fan you would know about that:)

Wonder if that might be a possibility in the future.

With most of our games, night games don't see that happening given the $$$ it cost the local area to build Tony Romo a new home. You know the new stadium for the Cowboys where they are 17-15 playing there:) Real home field advantage there.

Again, our ballpark is great. Some might call it cozy and gives us a real home field advantage. A retractable roof would be nice, but even the evening heat is a home field advantage.

I liked the stadium. Parking was difficult to figure out the first time down there. As long as you park at one of those lots next to the stadium you are fine. Do not venture a few blocks away...

Fans were great. Took my son to an Astros-Mets game and the fans were friendly when they found out we were Rangers fans rooting for the Mets.

Plus folks like me who come from out of the metroplex area make a weekend of "it" in Arlington. Get a hotel room within walking distance/shuttle bus distance to the stadium. Go to Six Flags and other attractions during the day, and the game at nights. We even stayed at the Great Wolf Lodge one time as well and went to games at night.

Lucky you, I've been several times and they have not been the best of experiences for a variety of reasons

I hope you were not part of that group that consumed the yellow snow cones at Minute Maid Park this year:)

HOUSTON -- A vendor at Houston's Minute Maid Park has been fired after a fan filmed him taking a tray of snow cones into a stadium bathroom and putting it on the floor of the stall while using the facilities.
The fan shared the video with KPRC-TV (Local 2 Investigates: Snow cones on bathroom floor | News - Home ), which aired the report Wednesday night.
New Astros president Reid Ryan says: "The Astros were notified immediately by our partner ARAMARK of the incident involving a vendor on Monday night. We commend the swift reaction displayed by ARAMARK of terminating the employee immediately upon learning of the incident that evening."
ARAMARK, which runs food services at the ballpark, call it an isolated incident and says the vendor's actions were "a clear violation of our food safety practices and are not reflective of our standards."
