I think they still have a chance, I believe if Arsenal beats Villa in the FA cup final Southampton would get the final Europa spot.

I could see him taking over Italy after Conte proves once again he's incapable of advancing in knockout tournaments. Would mesh well with some of the younger guys coming up in Italy being ready to compete for the 2018 WC.
