a few caps fans have told my brother that he should stop talking about "him" so now my bro just kinda trolls them

Don't tell me that's Van Persie's headed goal vs. Spain nominated there. That's ridiculous.

great read on "turfgate"

Of privilege and preference: Why the 2015 World Cup is still destined to be played on artificial turf | Soccer Gods

A lawsuit, much like a soccer game, may be won or lost in many ways. In the courtroom, as in sport, victory often comes down to strategy and tactics, much like the semifinal at the 2012 Olympic Games. That was the game were one Abby Wambach counted out the seconds Canada’s goalkeeper Erin McLeod held possession of the ball before putting it back into play, goading the referee to award a free kick that altered the course of the game. The United States went on to win the game and, ultimately, Olympic gold.

The CSA, in an ironic turn, has returned the favor by, in its response, counting out exactly how much time Wambach and co. dawdled before initiating legal proceedings. And much like referee Christina Pedersen, the tribunal had no choice but to enforce the rules.

Slovenia takes the lead, but Rooney ties it with a penalty kick. I watched the replay a few times, I can't fault the ref for awarding the penalty, but it certainly looked to me that Rooney toe-picked or tripped himself.

Found out that the England U-21's were playing the next day and probably had the bulk of the regular U-20 team, so this is less impressive than I first thought. Still, it's…something, I guess.

The past decade has seen a lot more exposure to European soccer by the average Canadian. Coverage of the Champions League, EPL and World Cup/Euro is on par with other sports programming that sees medium-strength popularity (NBA Playoffs, World Series) in this country. Municipalities have spent considerable money building multi-purpose (indoor and outdoor) soccer facilities as a revenue generator, and seen success with that model not only via adult rec leagues but also by expanding the youth development programs. Coaches are brought over from Europe to show the kids how the youngsters in soccer-crazy countries train and develop, and try their hardest to inch the youth here toward that level.

Maybe this is just a blip, but maybe they're finally getting somewhere? I know the England team at the very least was weakened by the U-21's being called up for a match v Portugal, but beating the States and Russia seems legit.

I know Nasty is a big USA soccer fan, but I think he also has a soft spot for the Republic of Ireland. A 4-1 spanking delivered to the Yanks by the Republic yesterday.

/Canada played to a scoreless draw against Panama

Too lazy to find it, but the last goal (free kick) was outstanding.
