I don't know about the bolded, Ford and GM have bounced back from some pretty shoddy vehicles (things that actually killed people), even Toyota had some pretty major reliability issues several years back, I think VW will be okay.

While true, VW's problem is more complicated. 25% of their sales in North America are diesel vehicles, and that is mostly because of a) the improvement on formerly sluggish diesel performance with their vaunted TDI line, and b) their intense campaign to market this line as environmentally friendly. It now appears that they lied about being environmentally friendly, and in order to make that statement a fact they will have to sacrifice the power TDI is known for. This is some terrible brand damage.

Also, in the past few years their cars have become shittier by design (cutting costs to sell cheaper to move more units to become the biggest automaker on earth) and this just seems to be following this trend.

Also, I own a 2012 TDI Jetta and I am fucking pissed off. This cannot be helping my resale value

I went to a WFC2 game in the summer ... free tickets ... they had a bubble soccer game set up and you could pay $11 per person to play in it ... DURING THE WFC2 GAME lol
