You guys know Laich is an UFA right? What's the Capitals cap situation? I expect Brooks Laich to be overpaid this offseason because the UFA forward class is WEAK.

Caps Cap situation is not that bad right now actually due to Carlson and Johannson still being on entry level deals. Right now with no moves they have 8.5M Cap space with 18 players signed before the Cap moves up, and actually, I would definately not be surprised if Brooksie gives the Caps a discount. Either way, I don't think he makes it to the free agent market.

I think that Caps management (ie GMGM) holds Bruce to high regard because he was the guy that brought them up from mediocrity, and made them work to begin with...and that's all nice and dandy, but it's a "what have you done for me lately" league. I mean, my experience with it with the Pens and Theirren, that was the guy that made a faltering team become a contender, brought them back to the playoffs, and GOT THEM TO A FINAL, and he got canned. Sometimes, it's gotta happen. It's amazing how a change like that can affect a team. That said, please, keep him.

I kinda agree that GMGM holds BB too high. Honestly I think BB should go. He's definately had his chances over the past 3 years. I've trusted McPhee since he's been here, but he damn better be right about Boudreau now...If not, it might be his job that's next...

It just seems like McPhee is just very hesitant to make any sort of big move. It took him a few years to get involved in a "big" way with FA/Deadline Day. That's just from an outsiders perspective though. I agree though that he's sticking his neck out for Bruce by keeping him. And if he keeps him, then it's basically finals or bust.

I have no doubt that Bruce is being kept now. McPhee doesn't just come out and say that he's keeping him to fire him a month later.

If McPhee keeps Boudreau it's Cup or bust because if the Caps fail again, Leonsis will probably fire both of them.

Exactly, although knowing the trust that Teddy has with GMGM, I think he'd probably stick with them even if they just GET to the finals. I think that his patience my actually be hurting the team overall though. Sometimes teams just need a change of pace in the room. I think it's just a healthy part of the process to kinda keep fresh ideas going in the room, and a new perspective and approach to the game. To me, it seems obvious that getting rid of him would be beneficial in the immediate...but I'm not in the room. Then again, they may want another year with his "system", but when that's shown to have issues in the postseason and weaknesses, it's hard to buy into as a player and trust as management. This is just my look from afar though.

Honestly, I think there might be a mid-season change. I kind of hope they just give up on him in the locker room, but even then it might take a while for GMGM to fire BB. The one thing I'll say about Mcphee is that he may not be the quickest decision maker, but he tends to make good ones when he finally decides to make it. Also, he's been really really good at drafting.

Certainly, the quickest decision isn't the best in many cases, but sometimes if you don't make that quick decision (and put your neck on the line a little bit) you miss out on great opportunity. I think BB will be okay for another season, he can probably still get something out of his players, but for some reason coaches only work with a team for so long, then players just get...bored or something. I dunno.
