that still not coming from the Rams but like i said he had every right to that 13m. why would he take a cut when someone was going to give it to him. they traded him not because of money it was just a case that Fisher couldn't take a chance on him getting hurt again and playing the season with a back up QB again. that would be coaching suicide. he thought Foles would be a serviceable QB. but it didn't work out.

I can give you more if you would like!

Rams chose Nick Foles trade over getting a 1st-round pick

ST. LOUIS -- Nick Foles sat between Rams head coach Jeff Fisher and general manager Les Snead as they tried to explain why Sam Bradford had become expendable in the trade with the Eagles for Foles. Fisher said Bradford would probably not have been back even if he'd agreed to a pay cut.

Snead referred to the Bradford situation as a "quarterback conundrum" and Fisher said he thought the 6-foot-6 Foles was a good fit for the offense. Foles threw 27 touchdown passes with two interceptions in 2013, and was 9-4 as the starter.

well I believe they still have a QB CONUDRUM lol

Generally speaking, you are correct Vita that teams don't routinely cut their first round pick BEFORE their third year due to bad playing performance but it is not unheard of and here is a list of them that did get eventually cut because they were so bad and taken in the first. There are several that never made it to their third year. Audray Bruce and Demetrius Underwood come to mind. See for yourself.

Sad, miserable, first-round draft flops for all 32 teams
Historically you are correct that it's not unheard of, but I think it's getting further and fewer between for two reasons.
  1. The current CBA. Notice that none of those first rounders on your list came after 2010, right? That's because the cost of keeping those guys around to see if they pan out is now on the cheap compared to years past.
  2. Spread offenses. As I mentioned prior, the spread offense has taken over CFB, mainly because college defenses have to account for the QB on every play and it makes it difficult for teams without a lot of NFL defensive talent to stop them. The OL guys are limited because not a whole lot is asked of them in spread offenses as compared to pro style offenses. So offensive lineman coming out of college are way behind in their development in moving to the next level. For this reason, almost all offensive lineman are projects. Finding out what you have or don't have, especially at LT, may take a few years.

It may take a few years but guys like LT Matthews who we whiffed on is playing pretty darn well the last time I checked. It's suspect that development of QBs and O-lineman may be on the same time frame nowadays. As Bill Walsh used to state. He like to work with a guy for at least fours years before bringing him in and he lamented that often that was unrealistic. I suppose it is hyperspeed now and thus many QBs and O-lineman or behind. We shall see about GRob. He is playing better recently but he still misses many run and pass blocking assignments his rating is atrocious and has not improved compared to say a Wichmann or Havenstein. I think GRob would do better inside at LG.

My understanding is the owner met with Kelly not with the intention of firing him only to get a feel for the future. But Kelly was such a prick in the meeting that the owner cut ties.

I can see that happening?

This shows what?? Another missed block by the Oline? How he got up from that I have no idea but shows his toughness you have to admit. He may be crossed eyed but no scared poopey pants!

Here is a list of Tackles and their performance going into week 17. I just stopped at Rob Havenstein to show he's having a really good year for a rookie. whats really cool is his pass blocking has been better then his run blocking. coming into the season that was his major concern… if he could pass block. He can! Notice Barksdale is having a solid year but we have Havenstein for a lot less money. any overall rating of 90 or better is considered Elite. 85-89 is considered all pro. 79-84 = Above Avg starter. Greg Robinson has a rating of 28.6. Im really surprised his bad play isn't more obvious? maybe i just haven't notice.

one… he's not a FA so i don't know how we would get him. he's good don't get me wrong but he had a real bad game last week allowing 2 sacks and seems to be on the decline. he makes 10m a year will be 34 he might retire next year. Now Kelechi Osemele is 26 and a FA next year… notice his run blocking of 97.7 tops in the NFL. I would rather have him at 8m a year long term

What??....They could easily cut him for the very reasons that you've already mentioned! In 2016, he has a high CAP # Low dead $$, and he is getting up there in age! Same thing that were probably gonna do with Chris Long! Come on boy think for a change!

Hey Coog
I think the reason JP gave up sacks last week was due to the fact that Chip was his coach:gaah: and Sam was the qb :mad2:. I'll betcha if Foles was the qb that would have happened!:suds:

Havenstein is going to be a great one and we whiffed on both Matthews and Lewan. We had Barksdale and let him go but he was primarily a RT as is Havenstein. I'll take Havenstein any day. We need to find a "Havenstein" LT in this year's draft and a Center.

I think he was pissed at Chip. Not Sam. They said he had some extra bounce in his step yesterday at practice.

Yeah but he will still want 10m a year not worth it! We don't want another Long type player at the end of his career. Plenty of young studs out there for cheaper. I bet Gurley would be all in on Osemele!

Yeah you did call Wichmann from the beginning. All of these young lineman got their feet wet this year. They should be ready to rock & roll next year. Yes we need a stud Center.
