Exactly!

Do you think his conditioning miraculously improves just because he’s on the Lakers?
Maybe he learns from a pro like Bron who can help him with that. Bron (like Kobe) keeps in great shape.....Luka could learn from an old-head like Bron.

Losing Christie hurts this season and the future.

He was really developing and he plays good defense, something Doncic doesn’t do.

I am amazed that the Lakers always give up the most in any trade they make.

AD, Christie and JHS plus a 1st given up for basically Doncic ( the other 2 guys are throw in’s for salary purposes ).

Luka is a 5 time All NBA player and he's only 25. So the Lakers got a top 5 player in the league and managed to hang on to 1 of their future firsts. Losing Christie sucks, but they managed to also keep Reaves. Keeping that 1st gives them the chance to add a starting quality big as well either by Thursday or over the summer.

The Lakers did not "give up the most", Dallas did, they lost a top 5 player.

Additionally, there are reasons beyond Luka's conditioning concerns that Dallas wanted to do this. They have wanted AD for years and have contacted the Lakers several times over the years, but the talks never went anywhere because Luka was never an option. This time he was.

Another reason they wanted to do this is because Luka and Kyrie have always been something of a "wonky" fit because they both need the ball to be most their most effective. AD should fit seamlessly with Kyrie. It's a "win now" move for them.

For the Lakers, they have a top 5 player for the post-Lebron era and depending on what moves they make by Thursday or over the summer, it could be "win now" and set them up for the future.

Plus, the Lakers training staff is pretty good. They seem to have gotten a handle on AD's injury issues which seemed to be related to how he was working out...they should be able to help Luka too.

Big and more defense since we have basically none right now.

Bron occasionally plays good defense but he cannot do it every night, Vincent has been solid.....but we need more.
We have Vanderbilt, DFS, and sometimes Hachimura for defense. We are not totally at a loss. Just a little thin.

Yep. That is true, DJ, but he may step it up on both ends of the court now that the emphasis will be placed at his feet to play both DEFENSE AND OFFENSE!!

I think the Lakers have the list of true Centers to choose from if they are going to move on a deal by Thursday for one of them. KD would be a disaster because he doesn't play much Defense either.

Sounds like it was Luka's drinking problem that was the cause. Well.. Probably half the league has a drinking problem. Still makes no sense unless they got something than AD for him.. hes a top 5 player in the league and hes only 25. LOL

Trading Vanderbilt to get a c who expires after next year at the latest is the key Imo

They also got a promising young 3 and D player in Christie and a 1st rounder.....so they in fact got more than just AD....the Mavs could very easily be in the WCF....

I wasn't implying we should try and trade for him....it was just a general comment.

We don't have much that the Suns would want in return for KD.

Um....are you serious right now?

Most think the Lakers won this in a landslide....I don't but you have to give up something to get something in return. Luka will be the face of the franchise once Bron retires and he's a top 5 player now.....and just 25. While AD is 31.

Lakers won this in a landslide. Top 5 player in the league just entering his prime (if not top 2) for 6 years older AD, a pick that will likely be in the 20s now, and an up and coming 3/D wing in Christie. Open market value could approach double that, Mavs GM Harrison is on the thinnest of ice now.

It does likely limit their ability to win this year (barring more miracle moves by the deadline), but realistically the Lakers were a playoff team but not a championship contender this year anyway. The Lakers now have their central piece to lead the franchise for the next decade.
