The Lakers don't need multiple first rounders for the deal with Atlanta for Murray to work. Reaves and Christie may go. Here is what is being discussed while the Knicks have entered the bidding war.

Murray is not that big of an upgrade over Reaves to pay their asking price.

It’s almost a lateral move, so why give up draft pick(s) and/or player(s) just to make a move?

Reaves is shooting a better percentage, he just doesn’t have the volume Murray does. And their other stats are comparable.

That’s just dumb.

The Lakers are forever sending players they develop away in trades that they later regret. Alex Caruso is a perfect example and then like DRuss, they give up more draft capital to bring them back. Reaves is right. The Lakers need to figure-out who they are and part of that is for Ham to stop attenuating the process with piss-poor rotations he changes nearly every game.

The Hawks need to recoup picks after what they sent to SA to get him, Retro....they aren't taking a loss on that trade.

Murray is the better player....

And I really like Reaves.

They're also not getting 3 firsts for him in return. They're going to lose at least one of those picks and/or change their definition of picks (possibly subbing a 2023 rookie as a "pick"). The Hawks aren't bad enough to dump the season for expirings.

I don't the Lakers landing him regardless.

That too but I can see Pelinka making a trade. Just not for LaVine.

I could see Lavine happening (not that I want that) if Chicago doesn't get better offers. If it ends up just matching salary for say Lavine and some mix of Craig/Carter/Drummond and maybe a few 2nds, Lakers might be willing to take on that contract. The cap will continue to grow, so that contract won't be as onerous with time (especially if he ends up being a solid fit).

They need a true #3 to James and AD...

I don't think they do. Reaching for a 3rd star is just asking for another Westbrook style acquisition, given what they have to trade. They really screwed up taking DLo over Conley at the deadline last year.

They do need health (missing Vincent virtually all season thus far really hurts) and someone other than Prince hitting open threes. They also need backcourt defense (both Russell and Reaves get hunted on defense) and a center (Hayes not getting it done).

No. But, they can get 2.

Which is more than we can offer.

Which is why it really depends on

1) how they view JHS; ans

2) if Christie would also bring involved

But for the hawks The last domino might’ve russell waiving his option now to make him a guaranteed expiring deal

Cause that’s what they really need being a borderline tax team and bottom 10 team even with Murray

Ideally I want to keep Reaves and get Murray but wouldn't let Reaves hold up the deal getting gone.

I get it

And I’d push Russell’s expiring deal if possible as well.

If it's Reaves...

Russell
Reaves

'30 1st pick swap

Not sure the Hawks would want both Russ and Reaves though. Or the Hawks could then flip Russ to another team.

If that's what they want, the Knicks can give them more 1sts and Fournier.

That's not close to a salary match.
