Gio Bernard wasn't even born.

I was 10 years old.

I'm not sure I had whacked it by then or not. Maybe. It's close, I'd guess.

I was 35. Having been through the 80s with two Super Bowl appearances, I never saw the next two decades of futility coming. It's easy to see though, in retrospect, that the death of Paul Brown was the beginning of the end for this franchise.

The Houston team was the Oilers.

Emmitt Smith was a rookie.

The NFL had 2 teams in LA.

Michael Jordan had yet to win an NBA title.

I was a 12 year old wide eyed optimist. Little did I know what a cranky jaded cynic I would become.

I was working at the McDonald's in the airport.

I spent every dime I made fixing up my car, so I could drive to work.

Crankiness and jaded cynicism are necessary survival traits if you must be a Bengals fan. Why we must be Bengals fans is something for which I have no answer.

Yeah but you guys have an excuse, you live in Ohio. I live in Connecticut, so there is definitely something wrong with me. Of course when I started becoming a fan, they were good.

Do you think it's possible that your sins are responsible for the Bengals drought?

we injured the crap out of one of the best players of all time, and it all goes down the tubes.

This is one of those half-truths.

Yes, Jackson got injured, but the direct injury is not what caused his downfall.

The inability of the staff to realize that a blood vessle and nerve had been pinched off, reducing blood flow to the area, and causing the area to basically decompose is what eventually did in Bo's hip.

So, yes..the Bengals injured him, but had the medical staff did the proper testing up front, he probably would have recovered and been just fine. Now, we'll never now.

I thought the last playoff game you guys won was the AFCCG that got you to the SB against the 49er's again.

I often think those games were Paul Brown's punishment for being a douchebag to Bill Walsh. (I'm sure you know the story).

I know a Bengal fan that, do this day, refers to Joe Montana as a 'ball hogging ass clown'.

I attended the last playoff game the Bengals won. A butt kicking of the Houston Oilers in a cold rain. I went to the game with my new girlfriend. We will be married 20 years in October...
