The irony if Saquon breaks Dickersons record and people declare that automatically means he should.

OJ, Jim Brown and Sir Walter Payton all had more yards gained per game than Eric Butthurterson did. There's the true irony - him calling out Barkley on a record that, in truth, belongs to OJ. Payton second, Jim Brown 3rd, and Eric buthurtickerson 4th.

If he had the required amount of self awareness, it would be useful to tell him to shut the fuck up. But, alas, he does not.
Rather surprised Barry Sanders..in that 1997 season...gotta look it up

Barry Sanders in 1997 2000 yard season, 6.1 ypc

I know you were referring to yards per game. For me...ypc is more telling, assuming there is significant number of carries

In 1997 looks like he averaged 128 yards oer game.

The most amazing thing about Sanders' season was that he was 29 years old when he did it. I think only Tiki Barber is older on the top 50 list for highest most yards per game average in a season.

One more thing - Barkley carried the ball 345 times and averaged 5.8 yards per carry for 2005 yards through 16 games. Butthurterson carried the ball 379 times and averaged 5.6 yards per carry for 2105 yards. Eric needed an extra 34 rushes to get that extra 100 yards. Pussy.

And wait! There is more. Barkley has 278 yards receiving. That gives him a total of 2283 yards from scrimmage. Dickerson had 139 yards receiving. That gave him a total of 2244 from scrimmage.

And, oh yes! There is yet more! Barkley's team is 13-3. Butthurtickson's team went 10-6.

does these yards per game a season counting the whole season?

meaning if you were playing a say 14 game season but due to whatever only played in 10 games. Are they going off the 10 games or the 14 game season?
Personally for a season stat it should be how many games are in a season. Not how many they played in that season.
Do you know which this is?

In 5 years no one will remember without looking it up who won MVP this year

And in 20 years very very few people will remember who won the SB in 2024-25

But everyone who watched football will know who holds the all time rush record and who they passed to get it

From a historical and legacy perspective you're far better off as a player breaking the record than you are winning MVP or even a SB

Yes absolutely
Marino can't stand answering the same questions and even if he says he isn't bothered by no ring, no. That is what haunts them. At least the ones we like as fans. Oh, and as far as for us fans, it's about the Lombardis. The reason why the best era for THE FANS was the 70s.

This seems like a record that needs to be quantified differently. For people who played when there was only 14 games, they should divide their yardage by 14. For people who played when there was 16 games, their season yardage should be divided by 16. Todays players yardage should be divided by 17. Not the number of games they played in, that devalues the record, but the total number of games in the season.

He got only 53 yards in the 1st 2 games combined that year too. I was at the last game when he went over 2000.. his final run clinched the game and a playoff spot.

Rest him for the playoffs. That record is so misunderstood that the only person that it really matters to is Dickerson.
I disagree. A chance at breaking the record is a dream that can become reality being 105yds away from tying. Barkley may never get another chance at it.

The Giants will more than likely play 9 men in the box. The Giants will not allow him to breath. They won't care if Hurts throws for 600 yards. Ever consider that?

well its the Giants. Soooo....... :heh:

All this sounds like is he can get big chunk plays when he breaks through. 60 to 80 yd play & he can go sit down early.

Let's not act like the Giants defense is top 5 or 10 or 20th. Did you ever think the OC would scheme for that situation? Let's play your little game of throwing 9 in the box. Hurts throws for 600yds, Giants lose 62-3. What's more embarrassing to the players? Losing 62-3 and fully getting mocked or giving up the record and losing a much much closer game.

Not to take away anything from Barry. But Lamar is at 6.1 ypc, for his entire career.

Vick is at 7.0.
