I didn't mind signing him this past offseason. If he missed a few games this year and next it would be no big deal to us. Look how many Gray has missed and we are going to be fine.

In hindsight, I don't think Kershaw being here makes any sense for Kershaw or the Rangers.

i could see us re-signing Martin Perez and Matt Moore and 2 maybe 3 good (better than average) BP arms this off-season.

i would bring the following into ST as starters or possible starters:

Gray
Perez
dunning
Otto
Ragans
Allard
Burke
Moore
Winn
White
Bradford
Weems
Kent
Leiter
Rocker
Porter
Kelly

I hate to say it but I think the motivation to sign Kershaw was mainly ticket sales.

We have gotten a lot more bang for the buck dollar for dollar with Perez

and we don't need to go out and sign him or any other FA "more bust than bang" starter this off-season

This is where ESPN has our farm system ranked, after the trade deadline.

11. Texas Rangers - $266 million

Preseason Value - $250 million (10th)

The Rangers made a lot of noise last winter, spending $500 million in free agency, then had a loud draft despite missing some picks due to that splurge. RHP Kumar Rocker and RHP Brock Porter were two first-round talents, while CF Chandler Pollard, CF Tommy Specht and RHP Luis Ramirez were nice finds with limited resources.

The deadline this year was mostly quiet, but they did manage to add rising LHP Antoine Kelly while graduating only RHP Glenn Otto thus far -- though a number of players are close to graduating. 3B Josh Jung had shoulder surgery right after my offseason Top 100 went live, and RHP Jack Leiter has had a rocky season while RHP Owen White continues to improve.

So after going absolutely apeshit at the trading deadline, the Padres get swept by the Dodgers this past weekend, getting outscored 20-4.

Baseball. Is. Hard.
Their pitching until last night's game was torched.

Yes, it was. He was a short term guy who could sell tickets and not get in the way of the development of our own pitchers down on the farm. It would have kept them flexible once his contract expired.

That is why I said he made more sense than Semien.

will firing people resolve the issues of both bad starting and bullpen pitching? the only way is for the FO do something

They may be the ones that need to be evaluated….? Maybe keep CY around and think about removing some of the rest

seeing Kershaw once a week when healthy wouldn't put butts in the seats the rest of the week. Semien and Seager put fans in the seats every home game along with Adolis, Perez and the kids like Taveras, Smith, Duran, etc. it definitely isn't the pitching or bullpen
