WOO HOO!!!!!

It is FINALLY a go! Release date set for January 2017.

Idris Elba as Roland. Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black. No word yet on Detta, Eddie or Jake.

I have been waiting for this one for so long. I was actually begining to think it might go the route of a TV series instead. That would have allowed for 70 hours instead of the 14 or so it will get as a series of movies. I just hope they don't try to squeeze all 7 books into 1 movie.

Haven't read it.

But I'm always on board with Idris. Glad he was finally made official. Sounds badass.

Started reading the series back in 97, and have also really been looking forward to this.

The Drawing of the Three is one of my favorite books to just pick up and read pretty much any time.

I like Elba as Roland, really. Eastwood is too old, and if they'd tried to get a lookalike, it would've felt like I was watching an impostor the whole time. If Elba can project the cold calculation of Stringer Bell and the enigmatic nature of Heimdall, he'll be amazing.

I'd like to see Jack O'Connell get the Eddie part. He's English, but he'd be amazing.

And yeah, 7 books in 1 movie would indeed be a disaster. I think with King's help, the screenwriters might be able to get it done in 3, but even that would take some amazing writing.

If you are a King fan, this is a must read. It is his Opus. It brings a lot of his books into the same multiverse.

I like Elba as Roland. Roland was modeled after Clint Eastwood, so there will definitely be grumbling about this casting, but years ago, I thought that Lance Reddick would have made a good Roland, so I am more than thrilled with Elba, whom I like better anyway.

Planning 7 movies is very doable in today's Hollywood. I would like them to actually redo a bunch of Kings movies to complete the multiverse. Do The Stand properly. Do a good Needful Things. Get the Talisman movies green lit. These are not REQUIRED for the Dark Tower to work, but they certainly will add depth.

How about other casting?

Detta - Octavia Spencer. She was born for this part. I cannot think of anyone better.
Eddie - Zachary Levi. I am not sure he is right, but his type is perfect. You need someone with some decent comedic presence. Maybe Jake Johnson?
Jake - Pierce Gagnon. He may be a bit young still. But his work in Looper made me a huge fan.

Aaron Paul is reportedly one of the main targets for Eddie. I am not sure I like that. He is too over-the-top for Eddie, I think.

How about Mark Hamill for Blain?

The script has been in development since about '05 so it is more than ready to go. Also, King sold the movie rights for $19, so there is extra funds avail to get it rolling.

I obviously love AP but also obviously have no idea the fit.

I did do a quick browse and saw the character is suppose to be early 20s? But people brought up both Paul and Tom Payne aka our newest Walking Dead guy.

I am not familiar with Payne pre-Jesus, so I have no idea about his comedic range.

Biggish name.

Now get Octavia Spencer and I am happy.

Again I don't know the material but shes awesome everytime I see her so if you think shes a perfect fit...that'd be great.

Paul is a good one to cash in on now. Seems to be the popular fan choice and hes pretty damn well known now and its gonna keep going up with his new show and reviews for his "Eye in the Sky" movie are stellar so far praises all the performances.

As I said, the perfect Eddie for me would be Jack O'Connell, if he could pull off a good American accent.

Perfect age, he grew up really rough with a lot of brush-ups with the law, and I think he'd be great.

He was in that awful Unbroken movie that Jolie directed, but this was him in a movie called Starred Up that I thought was great.

For Detta, I like Rutina Wesley, the girl from True Blood.

I know Eddie has a drug past is is going cold-turkey in the early part of the story, but I just never really pictured him as a tiny tweaker-type like AP.

10 years ago, Michael Weatherly would have been the absolute PERFECT Eddie, IMHO.

Paul and Wesley would look more natural on screen than Paul and Spencer. While Paul and Spencer would match the books, putting them together on film would be a bit jarring...

I like Elba, but it just occurred to me...

How are they going to deal with the Detta/Roland relationship with Roland being black?
