Don't get me wrong. Chauncey has all the right in the world to choose the team he wants, but at the end of the day, this is exactly what's wrong with the Amnesty Rule: stars still have too much power over where they want to play. Anyone can do the exact same thing as what Chauncey is doing now and no small market team would want to sign them because they know Amnestied stars like Chauncey will not want to play for them and are free to issue a warning for small market teams to stay away so that they can clear waivers and sign to play for either big market teams or contenders. Usually, they are one and the same.

If this is the case, all the Amnesty rule is doing is further helping existing big market teams. This is a bunch of BS. How is this ever going to help small market teams be more competitive if stars still have all the say in where they can sign to play?

Helps teams get away from bad contracts though.
And Chauncey isnt the one who decided to do it.
He is going to the Lakers

That's probably the only thing it does. But the addition by subtraction argument doesn't get teams very far if they still don't get talent in return. For example, if Rashard Lewis is amnestied. Great news for Washington, right? They save money, but if no one wants to come play for them, they end up having to rebuild their team. Whereas Rashard Lewis can warn other teams that he just wants to play for contenders. Boom. Lakers sign him for 3-5 million dollars and Lakers get Lewis on their team as well. Lewis ain't heading to the Bobcats or the Hornets or the Bucks. All I'm saying is that any player who gets amnestied is probably seeing this as an opportunity to play for big market teams
