The World at War documentary.

WWII in Color documentary.

Not sure if this is what the OP had in mind, but, what a fantastic series.
I have it on DVD, the only bad thing is that it doesn't have subtitles so I can follow the narration while I'm on the treadmill. I still put it on for the incredible archival footage. I was watching the fall of France last week, and there was some footage of a column of fleeing civilians who had been strafed/bombed that was so shocking that I almost fell off.

Here are a few more that I appreciate (I linked the titles to IMDB):

1.) Where Eagles Dare(BOOM, this movie is the shit! Haven't seen it mentioned yet, either. Clint and Rich Burton)
2.) The Enemy Below
3.) Run Silent Run Deep (Burt Lancaster is awesome in this movie)
4.) Sahara (Maybe Humphrey Bogart's best World War 2 performance, rather obscure too)
5.) Casablanca (tells a good story, even if it's overly dramatic)
6.) Morituri (Marlon Brando impersonates an SS officer on a cargo ship)
7.) Stalingrado (It's in German, so.. subtitles)

no mention of the Battle of Britain ...

would the Planet of Apes be considered a war movie ...

my all time favorite is The Great Escape with Band of Brothers coming a very close second ...

Band of Brothers, while both awesome and epic, was a mini series.

Korea didn't have the "happy ending"...also not so many people familiar with the battlegrounds. Seems to me that the European Theater in WWII draws a lot more interest than the rest of the world...

I think WWII gets so much attention because people know who the bad guy was for the most part, Korea and Vietnam people can't identify one person like they can with WWII and Hitler.

BoB was absolutely amazing. But has been mentioned, it was not a movie.

It had a very similar feel to SPR, and had a lot of the same people behind it (Hanks, Spielberg). I was actually going to bring it up earlier in the thread when I was discussing SR, but decided to stay on the topic of movies.

There is a decent Korean War film called "Retreat, Hell"

The U.S. Marine Corps's fight for life at the Battle of Chosin Reservoir against the Chinese Communist Forces offensive in the winter of 1950

A pretty amazing feat by the Marines.

I'm going with "We Were Soldiers", "Brave heart" and "Glory".

For the OP: I feel your pain about taking longer than 5 minutes to do the poll part of a thread and having it rejected. That happened to me with my 'women of Battlestar Galactica thread.

To get past it I create a list on a scratch sheet of paper and then just type things in quickly when I get the chance to make the options.

It used many of the same camera techniques from Saving Private Ryan.
