They are saying Cutler's injury might be serious and he could miss several games.

These are the STARTERS who are injured on defense:

Henry Melton - IR
Nate Collins - IR
DJ Williams - IR
Kelvin Hayden - IR
Brandon Hardin - IR
Stephen Paea - missed 2 games due to injury
Lance Briggs - hurt today
Charles Tillman - hurt today
Major Wright - hurt today
Blake Constanzo - not a starter but even he hurt today

The year that they lose Urlacher to retirement and try and transition a new defense with a new head coach.... this happens.

Peppers, Jennings and Conte are the only starters left on the defense. Unbelievable

That is a whole lot of injuries on defense. Posters hate hearing about injuries, but they do make the difference in a lot of cases.

Lack of depth, hurts when you have injuries.

True, but when enough injuries hit, even depth will not save you.

Yeah 8 out of 11 starters out.

The Bears defense was not as good as last year as it is even if they are healthy. They might be one of the 5 worst in the NFL now.

The Packers have not had close to the injuries the Bears have had this year.

In addition, the most important position in football (maybe in all of sports)... the QB, has started every game but 1 for the Packers since 1992. One of the luckiest injury stats for a team.

And the Owners want 18 games

Yeah, abnormal amount for CHI for sure, but it seems like every team has had more IR players this year.

I think they can forget the players going for an 18 game season anytime soon...I think the entire 53 should be active every week as it is, and the cap has been mostly flat the last 3 years...with top shelf QBs benchmarking @ $100mil teams are going to have trouble surrounding them with enough players to protect them and targets, plus a decent DEF.

currently the Pack is missing 4 starters on defense and 4 starters on offense. we are also missing a number of backups so yeah we have had close to if not more injuries we just haven't had a qb injury thankfully. We haven't had as many go on IR but we have had a number of injuries to deal with

Packers are missing both starting edge rushers, a starting ILB and his back up, their best CB and a starting DE from last year haven't played this year, and best S missed 3 weeks. On offense they lost the starting LT, WR, Slot WR, #2 RB, and now #1 TE. Saying it's "not close" is a joke.

Losing Cutler is a death blow but Chicagos defense was already falling apart because while they may have had good starters their depth is atrocious. Teams are made of 53 players not 22 that's why GBs defense hasn't nosedived.

To the Packers fans commenting...

Yes it is made up of a 53 man roster and not a 22 man roster. And the Bears have hung tough going 4-3 without crucial players.

I would say the Packers injury situation would be close to the Bears if Cutler didn't go down. 8 out of 11 starters (with 4 starters on IR and 5 total on IR) and 10 defensive players overall injured is about around what the Packers have lost. But then you throw in Cutler who was having a great year; was 6th in rating and 3rd in QBR and a 2:1 TD to INT ratio.

Losing Cutler changes everything. You can rebound losing almost anyone but not the QB. The Packers lost a ton of players their superbowl year but if they lost Rodgers and everyone else was 100% healthy, they would not have won the superbowl.

So with that, the Bears injury situation as a whole is FAR worse than the Packers.
