Prevent defenses actually don't mind giving up lots of yards, and they don't even really mind giving up points - to a degree - as long as those points aren't scored quickly. Prevent defenses have one goal...force the opponent to use timeouts and burn the clock.
What's better when you're up big?
have your offense run the clock out- with running plays and kneel downs
or
keep your prevent defense on the field
I understand what you are saying- but your "one goal" still isn't the overall point of the defense.
I would say
1. force a punt- (4 incomplete passes/turnover/sack) Give the ball back to Offense to kneel down.
2. force them to use timeouts, limit quick scores.
Philosophical football question are fun. No worries. (we got nothing else to do)
