Younger and really durable. Doesn't miss games.

But yeah....very meh.
Agreed. He is younger and he has proven to be quite durable, not missing a single game the past three seasons. And if economics were an issue for the Bears, Dayo is costing about 3m less per year and one year less in total than Sweat.

I would have paid a bit extra and went for Sweat but Dayo is a Dennis Allen type guy I guess.

I don't hate it as long as they are adding more. And with their draft picks you have to believe they will add a lot.

Speaking of adding more, the Bears are reported inking Falcons 31 year old DT Grady Jarrett for 3y/43.5m

And now we got Grady Jarrett?

He's 31 but he can play.

3 years 44 million, 29 of that guaranteed?

He's another one who seems pretty durable. He did miss half a season in '23, but aside from that, including all 17 games last year, he's had a fairly healthy career.

If Billings is healthy and you put him next to Jarrett...not a lot of teams are gashing us with the run up the middle.

Generally happy with today's FA signings, and coupled with the trades made the past few days, I'd say Poles largely addressed what needed addressing the most - the trenches. None of them were of the mind blowing variety, altho the Dalman signing was our top get today. All in all, I'd call it a successful day.

Sounds like Demarcus Walker redux.
well, at least he makes sense at 286. Only 3 sacks last year though.

Still holding out hope that Allen does something special with Hardy and Booker on third downs at least and they are not both delegated to special teams. But this signing shows he has pegs in mind.

Gotta love the legal tampering days.

Yup. Grady is a beast, and the Bears were never the same defensively once Billings went down. He was the pleasant surprise of last year imo.

Went to the store today and on the drive there I was listening to the NFL channel on SiriusXM, and the hosts were doing a call in. One of the callers was a diehard Falcons fan who was furious that his team let Jarrett walk. He said the exact same thing as you, calling him a beast, but also stating several times that he was the heart and soul of the defense. So Poles did well with this signing.

Not only filling the trenches, i feel like the Bears now have more flexability with this draft. Trade down a bit? Grab best player on their big board! That big time RB? Trade down grab that real good TE? DE? OT? This is solid!

I'm definitely a fan of trading back, but each time I say this, I always follow it up by stating just so long as there's a team willing to trade up with us. Easy to say, but who's that team and why would they want to move up? If we could solve that mystery, I'd be all in.

I’m fine with Jarrett, but seeing what the Vikes are paying Allen, I’d have preferred that.

They did not chase after a single tackle, they got the DE and here goes the fixation that we need to keep Kmet off the field more. They already agreed to Miami's TE deal, can we finally let Kmet be a focus for this passing game?

I dont want to see us have a top 10 offensive line and still see Swift running sideways. Doing a great job also means addressing the mistakes that were made. I dont think we should be willing to let the first quarter of games pass before we realize swift is a third down back and we need to have someone for first and second down. Big question right now will be the health of Brisker and Gordon and pretty sure a big part of the Allen style of defense is a big hitter on the back end.

Sitting back and reflecting on what was a positive day for the Bears yesterday, I am still holding in some reserve anger that these f*ckers somehow turned a multi-year sh*tshow into a positive. What should have been a drafted and developed young center at least 3 years ago that we would still have on a rookie contract right now has become some kind of grand success for Ryan Poles.

Mustipher/Patrick/Shelton/The Cody Whitehair experiment...What a f*cking clownshow....and here we are, blessing the Bears in another offseason of potential promise.

Am I allowed to be mad and happy at the same time?

They better not f*ck around this draft passing on talent that falls to them like they did with Jalen Carter. It will be the last draft (assuming no major trades) where we have additional capital from the Carolina fleecing. Gotta hit on a couple of these early rounders.

Well, boiling it all down, I have been laughing a bit at how Poles and the Bears have been widely praised for these offseason acquisitions, when honestly any of us could have done the same thing in the same position. I don't know if I've ever seen a more blatant need get more straightforwardly addressed as our need for line help has been.

It is worth asking, "If it was this easy all along...?".

Gotta agree with both of you. but most probably be deemed as killjoys, never being happy, never being satisfied.

Cap went up. The elite players simply do not hit free agency and rarely is a super bowl contender build thru free agency.

Would I have loved to see DK Metcalf being traded here for a higher second rounder than they got from Pittsburg? Yeah, would I agree with a 30 million per year contract for 5 seasons? Hell no.

Thats the difference with the elite players, but most times, they started as draft picks that got rewarded.

I see alot of Ben Johnson and Dennis Allen having a say in these signings, pretty sure Ben got roster say when he signed his contract. Poles can be the secretary, Warren can be in for the pictures and video signings, but Poles has been pretty bad at the draft. We need to hit on picks to at least be special team players when those show that have promise to earn a greater role.

There is still a spot to sign the best center in college football to develop behind Dahlman and be the backup. Shelton will be the backup now. I just hope these free agents make it to the season. The other thing we get from Detroit is having the most beat up roster in the NFL.
