Yeah, were it not for him insulting probably 90%+ of his intended customer base, it would be a pretty good strategy. After all, people are definitely talking about his shoes, which creates a lot of free advertising. 5,000 is pretty impressive. I've got to hand it to Ball (although we've got no clue if he's even made a profit because we don't know his costs and what the production agreement details about the total number to be produced, etc.) As much of an ass as he is, part of me hopes that he's blazing a trail for amateur athletes to make some money off themselves -- but honestly, the moment that tons of players start monetizing their names, the NCAA is going to have a major issue with it. (And I know I keep beating a dead horse about the NCAA eventually cracking down on this type of stuff, but I just don't see how they let this slide going forward.)
