Sabres should just keep him ... he is locked in at 4.25 million for 4 more years after this one so frankly what team would want that

2 or 3 more years of losing for the Sabres will mean they will certainly be able to draft a # 1 and a # 2 centre and that will leave Cody as a # 3 centre ... WHICH IS WHAT HE WAS ALL ALONG !!!!

That pretty well sums it up right there.

He's never shown himself to be capable of anything more than a strong 3rd line center, and yet we're paying him 1st line money.

When all of this shakes out, he's likely to land at no better than 4th line. More likely they move him (or buyout) though or he gets paid a lot of money to play in the AHL.

Consider that they'll likely get one of McDavid/Eichel who becomes your 1st/2nd line center pretty quick, Reinhart as the 2nd/1st, then there's still Ennis (can play the wing) and Girgensons, who is already an NHL caliber center. Then if Grigorenko develops into an NHL caliber center, they end up with 5 centers, not even counting Cody.

So what do you think Buffalo should do? Honest question, because the kid has obviously regressed to hell since he's been there and maybe the team are better off cutting their losses and trying to package him with a guy like Myers for a better return?

Really wonder what the hell happened there.

Just a headcase who got in over his head.

This is the guy who asked for a trade just after going to game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals
because he didn't get a bigger role

Once he got to Buffalo, he found out it wasn't so easy to carry that larger role (lesser supporting cast = more opportunity for spotlight = careful what you ask for)
maybe should have learned a bit more from the Sedins and waited his turn for Kesler's implosion?

he had all the tools.

Seems like a perfect opportunity to shop at Holmgren's House of Horrible Contracts!!!

Behind door number one we have a "slightly" used Vincent Lecavalier. Former Richard trophy winner and perennial all-star. He's a steal at 4.5 million and he's good through 2018!

We're also running a rarely seen before trade for one 3rd pairing defensemen get two free deal! Braydon Coburn, Andrew MacDonald, and Luke Schenn can all be had for the price of one! If you're running short on vowels feel free to substitute in a perfectly healthy (as of 11:33am EST) Carlo Colaiacovo!

If you're looking to stay above the cap floor without actually improving your hockey team we also have a Chris Pronger press box ornament for the great rate of 4.9 mil/season until 2017! That's 3 more seasons of cap hit with absolutely 0 production!

Come one, come all, swap your bad contracts with our bad contracts!

Good. Guy makes $4.25M per year (AAV) and is currently sitting on 3 points in 28 games. The only forwards on the team with a lower point total are three young guys with a combined total of 15 games played and Kaleta with 7 games played (and also not expected to be a scorer).

He's got the same number of points as the other Cody. What does that tell you.

Phil Varone (who?) had two goals for the Sabres last night.

That makes him tied in goals with Hodgson for the season.

yeah, you're going to have to cut'n'paste that content.

also, Cody = healthy scratch in his triumphant return to Vancouver.

"At the time it looked like a trade that could benefit both teams. The Sabres received a centre who they thought could solidify their top six, and the Canucks thought they were getting some sandpaper to add to their roster.

It hasn’t completely worked out on either end. Kassian has battled consistency issues until this season, where he has consistently underwhelmed. Hodgson looked like he was easily a top six centre on a weak Buffalo roster until he disappeared into obscurity this season.

Both players have bounced around their respective line-ups which hasn’t helped either of them get into a rhythm. Hodgson has moved up and down the line-up, and head coach Ted Nolan has moved him from centre to wing. Kassian has played on every line but the first this season, and it looks like he will play the next game on the fourth line.

Almost three years after the trade it looks like rumours are swirling around both players again. Kassian’s name has popped up in trade rumours over the past month, while other are suggesting that maybe Cody Hodgson needs a change of scenery.

Based on their contracts, Kassian is the more attractive option. He is signed for one more year after this season with a $1.75 million cap hit. Hodgson is in the second year of a six-year deal that carries a $4.25 million cap hit. If he continues to regress it wouldn’t be a shock to see Hodgson dealt or bought out.

If Hodgson does stick around in Buffalo throughout his contract, he would likely improve under a better Sabres team. For now, $4.25 million is a lot of money to be paying a player who isn’t contributing offensively or defensively.

The two players will go head to head once again on Friday. If either player manages to score, they would be bumping goal droughts that have carried on for too long."
