MLB putting pressure on Coliseum officials | CSN Bay Area

as the article even says this is a major longshot, but can the league even do this? how can you force a team that owns a stadium to share it?

also, if somehow this happens, would everything that says Giants on it have to be taken down for every A's game, and would the A's have their shit put up for every game?

I think it has something to do with the MLB antitrust exemption and they get to control where teams go. I really think they should just go to Candlestick until their issues are resolved.

Except that the Stick is going to be torn down immediately after the Niner season.

MLB can't force the Giants to take on the A'ss as a tenant.

And the Giants most certainly will not.

Even if they can't legally *force* the Giants to let the A's play in their stadium, a message from MLB saying "well, if you don't, we'll just let the A's move to San Jose" would be a stiff incentive to the Giants to agree...

And SHAME on Purdy, supposedly a Giants beat writer. He mentioned "precedent" for teams sharing a stadium, giving examples, and failed to mention that the Giants shared the Polo grounds with the Yankees for 10 years.

And it would still be a better baseball environment than the Coloseum.

Or, they can just let the A's have San Jose, making a bunch of south bay baseball fans, REGARDLESS OF WHAT TEAM THEY ROOT FOR, very happy.

Signed,

I still just want a chance to walk right from work to a game after work.

Or let them play in Long Beach. Or in the San Fernando Valley. Or Riverside/Ontario.

That would make a lot of fans in those places happy.

We have had this discussion already, BDD.

The Giants financed AT&T based on the fact that they LEGALLY own Santa Clara and they have invested MILLIONS into that area. It is, quite literally, priceless to them, and there is no amount that can be paid by the A's or MLB that would be fair compensation.

In a kumbaya world, it would be great for everyone to have a team across the street. But agreements have been made and actions have taken place based on those agreements. To nullify those agreements now would devastate the Giants org.

The Giants long term plan is to force the A'ss out of the Bay Area. That way, we can play the Red Sox to the doyer Yankees. Philly and Boston don't have two teams, why should we?

Once the A'ss move, our position as a big market club is solidified.

For the Giants, couldn't this even be a good thing money wise? I mean, wouldn't the Giants receive at least some kind of relief? Whether it's splitting the upkeep costs, splitting the stadium debt, heck even just rent money?

It would be weird for a couple years, but would be beneficial financially right?

I feel like it would make it too hard to create a schedule as the A's and Giants no doubt had home games on the same day...

I was thinking the same thing. I still say that Candlestick is an upgrade to O.co. Just put off the demolition for awhile longer.

meh...only 8 I believe....but it's all basically moot at this point anyhow.

A friend of mine who's an A's fan told me a funny yesterday....of which I titled a thread in the MLB general.

"Looks like MLB can't spell Athletics without AT&T"

I don't see any way how they could make the schedules to fit both teams in that stadium - the schedules have already been out for a while now so they can't just start changing them

MLB needs to get their shit together and get the A's their new stadium - it shouldn't be that difficult

How would the stick be an upgrade?
I've been there for countless giants and niners games in the past....it's horrible for baseball, decent enough for football though.
If BART stopped there, then it would be considered an upgrade.
Get Real.

I was being somewhat facetious, but also a bit serious because shit & piss doesn't overflow onto the field.

I just read an article that said A's owner Lew Wolff and the city of Oakland/County of Alameda are working on a lease extension deal to keep them playing at the Coliseum for the next 2 yrs. while a new stadium deal for them over there gets crafted.

So rest easy Giants fans....no need to get all flustered.

i didnt see anyone getting flustered, but if you wanna make it that way, knock yourself out. this thread was mostly a hypothetical discussion. if you read the initial post it even points out what a long shot this would be.
