Eh, that the Chiefs were a player until the end, in mid July, of the Hopkins FA says otherwise.Apparently DeHop doesn't agree.

I'm good...thanksStephen doesn't ask questions he just talks. You are making very little sense and probably have low blood sugar. Go get a snack.
I'm not really sure he even needs to be 'that guy' anymore if Derrick Henry is still 'that guy'. That fact that the Titans might also be relying on a QB that may or may not be washed means there is a number of ways this goes sideways for Tennessee. Probably a team you want to play late in the season but want no part of them in week 1 or week 2.I guess we'll see. I'm not so sure he's that guy anymore.
Tannehill is in the last year of his contract. He's due $27M this year and it's not guaranteed. The Titans can cut him before Week 1 and save all of that $27M against the 2023 cap. There is $9.2M of dead money due to count towards the 2024 cap which will not now accelerate if he's released, (or traded).Have you seen the RB market? No one was going to give up picks to pay Henry over $10m for this coming season.
And the Titans couldn’t part with Tannehill because of the dead cap hit they would have had to absorb.
Titans have a new GM this off-season. But in the modern NFL with the cap and all the guaranteed money that is handed out these days, they really can’t put out their full vision of a team until year 2 or 3.
He's a good player but I don't believe he's a stud at this point. I doubt there was a better financial offer available than what the Titans offered. I wouldn't have retained him at $34.5M+/2 years and I wouldn't have wanted my team to offer him $26M + incentives/2 years. It's probably a fair market price rather than an overpay but winning under a cost cap generally requires a team to have more talent than they're paying for.Thats nice.
Bottom line: Titans got a stud
Top 5 receiver Talent wise
Yeah I wouldn’t have Hopkins in my top 5 WRs anymore.I guess we'll see. I'm not so sure he's that guy anymore.
So...what's diff. Between top 5 and top 5 talentHe's a good player but I don't believe he's a stud at this point. I doubt there was a better financial offer available than what the Titans offered. The titans didn't pay AJ Brown only to pay an older Deandre Hopkins
Not even close to the same contract. The titans didn't pay AJ Brown only to pay an older Deandre Hopkins

Without Brown they sucked. They replaced him the best way they could and at a discount. Not too bad to pair with Derrick Henry.

Trying to find discounts and ended up taking major steps back. This signing was really just to "hope" he can help close the gap that was left with losing Brown.
A band aid.Burks was emerging at the end of last season, is more the answer to replacing Brown than an aging Hopkins, who is more of a band-aid IMO.
Replacing a 26 year old WR with a 32 year old WR coming off a banned substance suspension is a band-aid. It's not a long term fix.A band aid.
10th in yards per game last year with dog shit throwing to him.
More yards per game than Travis Kelce.
4th in receptions per game
More than everyone besides Kupp, Jefferson and Chase.
A band aid.
You must be worried about the banned substance suspension carrying over.Replacing a 26 year old WR with a 32 year old WR coming off a banned substance suspension is a band-aid. It's not a long term fix.

He may never recover from it!
He had to recover from an injury. It's smart to use those substances for recovery. Not many WRs excel beyond 32. The fact that he was cheating to try to stay effective should create pause.
He'll be 31 for all of next season. He won't be "beyond 32" until the 2025 season. Why are you aging him to try to make your case? Do you not have a case? Not many WRs excel beyond 32. The fact that he was cheating to try to stay effective should create pause.
They traded him for Treylon Burks and their RT. (Who is currently suspended)The titans didn't pay AJ Brown only to pay an older Deandre Hopkins
