Bad day for Big East defectors. 0-4 today.
Duke doing a melt down. OMG. I'm officially putting douggie on suicide watch.
Virginia has a brutal stretch coming up starting Jan 31st. While they should be 19-0 heading into their contest with Duke, they have absolutely zero chance of going through the regular season undefeated. After Duke, they head into a meat-grinder: @UNC, LOU, @NCST, WAKE, PITT...@Wake again 2 weeks later. Not to mention closing out the season @SYR and @LOU. Good luck with all that. They are a very good squad, but they are by no means the type of dominant squad that marches through the ACC undefeated.
However, I'll now give them as much respect as I can give any unit not named Kentucky. UVA could very well be the best "team" in the country. While there are still several squads like Kentucky with far more talent, outside of perhaps Gonzaga, which plays together flawlessly and is full of seniors and juniors, Virginia's starting rotation seems to play the game together as well as almost any other program. What they accomplish without a true offensive star is quite remarkable. Although Anderson has obviously become their go-to-guy, as it were. When watching them last year, I was sure Gil would take the reins as their lead horse once Harris departed, but that hasn't really happened with Anderson's ascension.
That being said, Virginia could have a precipitous fall down the rankings over the final 2 months. I still see 5 or even 6 losses over that span. That would still amount to a very good season considering their schedule, but once the air gets let out of their undefeated season, it will likely cause a bit of a domino effect.
We shall see. UVA finished very strong last season. It will likely be the opposite this year.
