Why in the hell would the Avalanche protect Varlamov and expose Pickard? Nobody is picking up Varlamov 6 million tag anyway. Why not protect he better cheaper goalie? Do they really believe that the Knights will take the way over priced Soderberg instead?

That's actually the reverse strategy Ottawa played I believe. By not protecting bobby Ryan because of his huge cap hit. Not a big fan of Varlamov. And there's a ton of cheaper goalies out there. A few Devils i don't like seeing exposed. But I can't argue who they chose to protect. Surprised minny left dumba exposed. He does have a heavy shot

I grew up in upstate NY. I've actually got quite a few close friends that are rags fans. Hate the team but some of there fans aresone of the best hockey conversations I've had. Some islanders and flyers fans can be much worse imo. Could be interesting if the Devils go Patrick. Nephew of one of the Rangers all time greats
