The era of the offense and defense is determined by the participants first selection. After that it's fill the positions based on the coinciding decades. As far as I can tell

"If you draft players who played out of the position you will play them at I will point it out and when voting it can and should be used against you!"

If the player played LDE and I use him at RDE is that a big deal or are you mainly saying if he only played in a 4-3 and I use him in a 3-4?
