Nash and Marshall are already on the book for next year though. If they were to pick Smart, why would they re-sign Farmar as the 4th PG?

Because I think Nash isn't going to make it through the season and eventually succumb to a medical retirement.

Farmar is a must re-sign IMO, he has 2 championships & when healthy can beast it up in the 4th qt. He ran the 2nd squad along with Swaggy nicely. If we pick Smart he can learn from Farmar & like I said before we don't know what the hell will Nash bring. What's good is that we can mix it up with Smart put him at SG & PG depending on match ups & Marshall & Farmar will be fine.

:agree: LALakersboy. The odd man out here may be one or both the guys from GSW. I'd like to keep both but it may come down to a numbers issue and the new coach.

I don't see Wesley Johnson staying. Nor Chris Kaman, Ryan Kelly, Marshon Brooks, and unfortunately Pau Gasol

I think they will keep Kelly but iffy. Wesley Johnson may survive but the rest are probably gone.

If we keep the pick that's management saying "thanks Kobe, now sell these tickets for us for 2 years while we get back to the top after you leave..." The pick and cap room is all we have and the pick is not too high and the cap space is not as much as we like...

Ariza is middle of the road pay and I don't think Washington will pay with Otto Porter and Martell Webster still there... I think 6/7 picks and Green might be enough for them to get to the top 3 and so may give up Rondo since they don't want him anyway... Lakers finally get a great defensive pg who can get others involved and still keep Kobe involved (Paul Pierce style)...

Rondo
Kobe
Ariza
Hill
Pau

All have rings, and this helps us defensively as well... Now go get Hollins or JVGUNDY and let's get this done...:yahoo:

I'm not sold on Rondo. I'd rather take my chances drafting Smart.

What aren't you sold on...? His injury...? I know his shooting is subpar, but he is a pure pg who can defend... Upgrading our defense on the perimeter is the only way we can keep Pau and thus the only shot we have at rings for Kobe's last 2 years... With Ariza and Rondo Kobe is now responsible for the weakest wing player as well... Rondo is the Allstar version of Kendall...

That's exactly what it is: his terrible shooting. We might just as well keep Marshall - he was dishing out pretty much just as many dimes as Rondo.

Yea Wlk3. I don't think Rondo would be an upgrade offensively over what we have now. Maybe defense and mental toughness to win the ring but not offensively.

Looking more at Julius Randle now, I didn't realize how much of a good ball handler he is for a PF & will take you from the top of the key & blow by you. His presence in the paint is also pretty dominant. His a monster! I also love his attitude & passion for the game.

Check out the scouting videos for Aaron Gordon, Noah Vonleh and Marcus Smart too LALakerboy. Knowing that we'll most likely get one of those guys gets me really excited for the next season.

I saw most of them already, except for Aaron Gordon, I'm gonna check his out right now. :pop2:

I agree with wlk. Comparing Rondo and Marshall, Rondo isn't an upgrade offensively, but not a downgrade either, more of a wash. I think Marshall has a better jumper, but Rondo can drive the lane and get to the hoop just about any time he wants.

He is, however, a huge upgrade defensively which means the Lakers won't be getting torched by point guards anymore. Marshall just doesn't have the speed and quickness to be a top defensive PG.

Was I dreaming? Did I not see people on here bitching about defense all season long?

He's also going to be wanting $13m a year. Which would almost be agreeable if we didn't have Nash on the books.

See what happens after the draft. If we end up with Smart, like a lot of mock drafts predict, there isn't even any point mentioning him again.

Replace Gordon and Randle with Smart and maybe McDermott
:L

I would be very disappointed. We don't need McDermott. I don't want smart either. Randle or even Gordon would be better IMO.

I would personally prefer a PF in the draft to replace Gasol. I agree we don't need McDermott but Smart could be a good addition too.

My only problem with Smart is his a horrible shooter & has a bad attitude. Honestly I prefer staying away from him.
