In the age of free agency the ability to trade and sign free agents far eclipses the value of early picks with the caveat that those early picks have trade value. Really, look at how many #1 picks have won a championship for the teams that drafted them. And those teams at the bottom are generally there because they have terrible GMs, which a #1 pick won't help. You'd be better off making a rule that if you finish bottom 5 for 3 years in a row you must fire your GM.If you're not going to get the top prospects to the neediest teams, start contracting teams. We know that won't happen, so nix the lottery.
