yup, getting Darko led directly to the Pistons ring (just not how it normally does).
The other biggie is injury luck...lotta reputations are supported by titles won when the other teams had some injuries.

Then there's 'last shot' luck, think of how many narratives changed when that game 7 shot Kawhi made for Toronto bounced around on the rim 4 times and went in. If it bounces out instead there's a ton of different stories we tell.

Dumars rumored to be taking over the front office in New Orleans. Would be a solid choice.

Bold choice to go with the guy that was fired for being out of touch with modern basketball 10 years ago

Local hire...to placate their fan base?

Dumars is a Louisiana native (Shreveport)....and went to McNeese State (Lake Charles)

Just sayin'

Also...how long will they stick with the unreliable and often injured Zion W.?

Yes..they do..believe it or not....lol
But I bet it's been slowly dwindling.
I feel for those people for sure, what has happened in OKC is not normal and we are lucky. I try to tell these people around here how lucky they are to have had the team we have for all but 2 or 3 years here.

I'm pretty sure he'll just do an average job. He got a ring, but I think a lot of that was luck at how the guys that he traded for just happened to work together under an all time great coach. I mean, come on, trading Hill for Atkins and Ben Wallace was pretty insane at the time. And Stackhouse for Hamilton was up there too. Signing Billups was not a no brainer either, he was almost at just journeyman status when Joe threw money at him.

You might say that this just shows Joe has a great eye for talent and team building, but remember, it was a one-off. He never repeated it and he was there until 2014. I think it was at least as much luck as it was skill.

I thought Stackhouse for Hamilton was a terrible trade for the Wizards the day it was made.

Was the pattern for the franchise at the time to trade a young promising player for a vet who is on the decline so you can win a couple extra games, make the playoffs and lose in the 1st round.

I don't know, Hamilton wasn't much at the time. A black hole that did nothing but shoot as was a cone on defense.
But Jerry was a ballhog in the declining return part of his career.

I didn’t think he was anything special…

But young player for older player who honestly isn’t really better is always a bad move.

While not on the same level, this is why people were so mad about Luka for AD.

I don’t disagree.

Definitely their fate was sealed as soon as they traded for Beal. Lost all roster flexibility
The Clippers were ripped for letting PG go.....but that gave them some flexibility to get pieces that fit their team. They wouldn't have been able to do so if he stayed.

And look at them now. The Clippers are a team to definitely watch this postseason......IMO.
