Mavs to miss the playoffs after the way they've been trashing Luka in the media. Now its a very real possibility. Reap what you sow

Best news for Dallas is that the bottom of the West is mostly hot garbage. Sacramento just blew up their roster for picks and LaVine. Everyone hates each other in Phoenix, supposedly. Golden State is banking on 3 guys who are 36,35,and 34. The Spurs traded for a guy who couldn't win much with a better roster, to try and salvage their season.

Only Portland -- 8 wins in their last ten -- looks like a team that might try to knock Dallas out of the play-ins, and it'll take more than that.

Throw-in or not, he's averaging 18 / 6 / 3 in 31 minutes with Dallas so far.

The only negative I have with Christie is basically youth/inexperience based; he has a tendency towards bad turnovers when he's making playmaking decisions with the ball in his hands. He's getting better with it, but as a defender/spot up shooter he's more reliable thus far.

It sucks that Nico is catching all of the smoke on this because based on what has been reported and the weird way the whole thing went down...this smells like ownership calling the shot.

They didn't want to give him that supermax and if they kept him and he gets them to the finals again...they wouldn't have much choice but to pay him.

As I posted the other day...I don't know if ownership was on board with him not getting what his original asking price was from the Lakers...but they were on board with him moving him to the Lakers for AD.

Nico knew that he could get the trade done quickly because he knew they were only willing to move AD if they got Luka in return...that covered the quickly part...

And because he and Pelinka have a good relationship...he knew he could trust him to keep his mouth shut until the trade was completed...which covered the quietly part.
Exactly but everybody wants to rip Nico.

Stupid.

I expect Nico did not have nearly as much to do with it as some believe. Sure once told he executed it and put the only spin on it he could.

If someone tells you to kill someone and you do it...pretty sure you are still responsible.

He was the hitman, he didn't want him dead. He's still going to jail and he is going to take a pounding

Maybe not... but it's a little hard to believe that Harrison would fall on his sword so publicly, by taking full credit. Unless the Mavericks win a title soon, Harrison's career as a basketball executive is over. No other team could possibly give him a second chance after Dallas fires him.

So the only scenario under which it makes sense for Harrison to voluntarily serve as the fall-guy for his ownership, is if they made a deal with him, to take care of him to the tune of tens of millions of dollars in recompense, when this goes south and his career is self-sabotaged. If they were willing to do that, they might as well have just taken the chance on paying Doncic the supermax.

Why else would Harrison literally put his life on the line for the owners, by falsely claiming responsibility?

The Dallas/LA trade is looking horrible wiht now both AD and Christie are injured. AD is just flat-out injury-proned. He was better for a couple of years like last year and the better part of this year until recently. When he gets injured in these difficult anatomical areas, he is usally out for an extended period of time.

Normally, this source is not very trustworthy or valid in their basketball life reporting but I think this article is pretty close to the reality of the Western Knecht situation.

Nico's net worth is estimated to be ~$10M. He'll be fine if he never works again. He also signed a multiyear deal before the finals last year, of which the details were not disclosed. So, I suspect he's not going to suffer except for the rotten tomatoes being thrown at him in public; but he can afford the dry cleaning.

This trade won’t be graded on the next month of results, but rather the next 5 years.

Dallas might miss the playoffs, but that isn’t on AD. Luka missed a lot of time for them before the trade and is a big part of why they are in their current hole.

Agree but maybe not even 5 years for Dallas' return. If AD's injuries start to pile up I don't think anyone would be surprised to see him hang it up in 3-4 years or at least deteriorate to where he isn't close to the same player.
