It's looking like he might be pretty good at basketball. I like that he's not afraid to look for his shot even when he's on the floor with Lebron and AD.

This kid could be a solid role player for the team. I'm not going to go all crazy and call him a future all-star, but he's exactly the kind of shooter the team has been looking for.

He (Garland) started to press last night... you could see it and eventually feel it through the TV screen.

It was as if he said to himself, "I don't care how long and interchangeable these defenders are, I'm gonna keep doing my thing no matter what!"

No bueno, as we saw.

--------

Beyond that... sure, it was just one game during the regular season...

... but I think Garland is a net weakness overall come playoff time.

He's the type of guy that can feast on most nights in the regular season... going up against a lot of average to bad teams giving average to poor effort.

But when the opposition get consistently better and the intensity level ratchets up several notches... his sort of game isn't what any team wants to depend upon to win them a championship.

JMO.
my guess is his coach and teammates told him to keep shooting. Mitchell, too, who for a while couldn't hit anything.

Garland was far better than the vet Mitchell in his first ever playoff series at I believe age 22.

Lebron with only 2 rebounds, WTH?

They didn't rebound well as a team. Lots of minutes playing 4 guards will do that. Too many bigs out with injury. They also were coasting quite a bit last night, not taking the Jazz seriously (and a 25 pt 2nd half lead ended with a 6 pt victory).

Might be wrong but didn't he have some good games in their series last year despite his awful season? Especially game 4 and/or after Mitchell was out?
He shot 5-8 one game but that was in a win so Mitchell was playing. Last year he was a different player and going through a lot. It does seem like a bad matchup for him. Quick, physical guards that play tough defense. Small sample size

Yeah seems like the type who might give him trouble and did have an awful Game 5 vs. Boston.......but other than that and last night he's been pretty good against them lately...even in his terrible 2023-24 season.

I saw poor effort last year at times but he went through a lot…that wasn’t the same Garland. I am seeing the exact opposite this year and he played good defense. The effort was fine, if the C’s want to go at him and get him into foul trouble..let that be the strategy. The issue was the Cavs had zero wing defenders. Their best defensive players (not bigs) were all hurt. They could switch onto Garland anytime and the Cavs had no answer other than Jerome or Merrill, guards. Merrill played good defense but doesn’t give enough on offense. Last night, the effort was there from Garland but offensively he wasn’t moving the ball and when he got to his spot he didn’t have it. I think it could be a mental thing with Boston particularly or just a bad game. I would not compare it to last year bc he was a different player honestly. Only time will tell but he looked off from the start.

Boston plays tough defense so all the credit to them but I have seen him against other physical guards and he is just fine. Boston has a good gameplan against him. Time for him to adjust, that’s what I want to see next time.

ftr: I wasn't referencing/knocking Garland's effort or attitude or anything like that.

I'm talking specifically about his "poor man's Allen Iverson" game. Simply put: IMO, it's not built to win championships... particularly in this day and age of the NBA.

Beyond that... totally agree that the Cav's were hurt by injuries loaded at one position last night... (although Merrill and Jerome played reasonably well, both playing feisty defense).

I mean, not sure I'd compare him to AI as he's not the guy who wants to get his and take 25 shots or more. But, sure, if he is your best or most important player you are not going far....luckily for us he is not that, I guess.

Who passed on Dalton?

Atlanta, Washington, Houston, San Antonio 2x, Detroit, Charlotte, Portland 2x, Memphis, Utah, Chicago, Okc, Sacramento, Miami, and Philly.

The only team that gets a pass here is Philly bc Mccain is balling. I won't say this too often.

The Cavs are playing great now in mid November, but chances are they will run out of gas. 1st round is a good spot to catch them.

:pound:

Yeah okay. Over/under 50 games for AIE (always injured Embiid) this season?

Wasn’t a need for Miami at all

Seems like a ton of guys out in Cavs-NO game tonight. NO already missing 8-9 of top guys and Cavs added Garland and Merrill to the guys who did not play last night as out tonight.

If in Cleveland and can play guard show up....may get signed to play tonight.
