At this point, it’s time to shut it down. The other option is rest and rehab until April. The downside of that is risk of him playing on a compromised knee and doing further damage in the playoffs for him to be less than 100% and out of basketball conditioning to boot. Have the surgery now and turn the page for 2024-25. In the mean time, you give Maxey the keys and see where his ceiling is. The “shut Embiid down” option does open the door to do a Tobias swap for help around Maxey. They just have to be careful that the player they bring back:
1) Is also an expiring contract to protect cap space next season.
2) Is a fit with Maxey/Embiid.

I could see something like this.

This leaves them 3 firsts this summer to play around with if they’re willing to trade the 2024 1st round pick and they only add 6 million of future cap but it’s a good contract for a Maxey back up PG.

Would send another first here and maybe a swap if they could get Caruso here instead of Carter.

Again who are you using this cap space on?

And why do you think you’re getting derozen for free if you get Caruso?

That's smart.
I like something like this where the move is really about next year but you provide a bit of a hedge and get Maxey some help. I really want Maxey to get as many playoff games as possible where he is the number 1 guy on the opponent scouting report. With the way that kid works and the way he has taken a step forward every year in his young career, this experience could be very valuable and instructive.

Cap space is valuable in trades as well.

I know you’re being sarcastic but they might as well when the best case scenario is 75-80% Embiid with a great risk on the 2024/25 season. It’s the smart move. It’s the long term move. Because of that the Sixers won’t do it.

I hate this organization. This is fucking amateur hour. Look at @bksballer89 tweet from a doctor. Sixers organization seems clueless.
Yeah not sure why they are dancing around the facts. No point in hiding. A tear means he is done for the season 4-6 months recovery after surgery

From what I’ve read the surgery is more of a 2-3 month timeline but that still doesn’t cooperate for this season, especially because at 7’2’’ he’s gonna be on the back end of that timetable. Then you need a ramp up to a return to play.

I don’t even trust the people on the Sixers training and medical staff with the “rest and rehab” option that they’re not going to mismanage it and increase the already existing chance of a setback.

Somebody needs to be the adult in the room and sell Embiid on the surgery and save him from himself. He’s gonna want to gut it out.

Surgery tomorrow is the way to go if you want to save the season

Season ends on April 14th with the real playoffs starting April 20th so if you are correct about the 2-3 month time table then he's back some point round 1

If thunder or knicks finish top 3 and should between those 2
I disagree. Brunson is having a great year but not MVP caliber. Knicks have a good team that fits well but people are slobbering over them acting like this is the best team ever. It’s bc they haven’t seen a great player in so long. Melo was a better player, they just didn’t build around him

Shai and Giannis are way above Brunson
