80 games of basketball over 9 months. Grand total of 3840 minutes or 64 hours of total work possible, for games.

Average common worker works 40 hours a week. Most skilled trades men work 60 hours a week.

I don't give a shit what anyone thinks. An athlete not playing two nights of basketball in a row is disgustingly pathetic.

Yeah, we are also told that due to advances in training, medical treatment and nutrition, todays players are in far better shape than those in the past. Seems like they should be more prepared to handle it than those players were.

It’s the old argument about the differences between playing hurt and playing injured.

I really don't understand why folks continue to call for fewer games even though everyone knows they aren't going to change it. The owners will never go for it because of the revenue they'd lose and the players will never go for it because they'd have to take a pay cut.

Revenue is why they keep finding ways to expand the playoffs. We're lucky they aren't trying to add more regular season games.

Heck, they've actually already taken a step in that direction with the IST as the Lakers and Pacers will have played an 83rd game that doesn't count in the standings with stats that don't get added to the regular season totals. Outside of the trophy and banner, the NBA is treating that game like it never happened.
Fewer games?

Okay

Less pay.

That will shut the players right up.

Not sure why fans would want games reduced.

The '72 Lakers didn't use load management.

Wilt at age 35 played 42 mpg and played all 82.

Jerry West played in 77.

Gail Goodrich played all 82.

Happy Hairston and Jim McMillan each played 80.

Happy Hairston averaged the fewest minutes at 34 per game.

So yes, I'd say you can complain about load management and not be in favor of fewer games.

Can’t compare past era before load management was a thing.

@ducky on here talking about AAU…

And while he is absolutely correct that these kids came up playing 6-8 games in a weekend, where he is wrong is that a lot of NBA players are entering the league with a ton of wear and tear from doing that throughout their teen years.

As we all know, bodies don’t recover as fast when we get older, especially if the player over did it in younger days.

It doesn’t seem that hard for those of us used to playing pick up games for 4 hours a day in our youth but it is a different toll on the body playing at the NBA level.

I know a couple guys my age (45- 50) who played pro basketball and their bodies are completely broken today.

It takes a heavy toll.

Well, I want games reduced because the regular season product today is shit.

It would be a lot higher quality if they played fewer because each would be take on greater importance.

I realize this won’t ever happen, but it would fix a lot of the problems that people here complain about regularly.

Only way it would happen would be with an additional round of the playoffs

And we really don’t need that.

Playin game would become playin series or something like that

Yes, you absolutely can. You can't just eliminate earlier eras because it doesn't fit your narrative. This isn't Bill Russell or Wilt going against a bunch of 6'4" white guys.

This is the same size court, same number of games with quarters being the same minutes. Hell, they even had a 24 second clock.

And there are guys from that era whose bodies aren't completely broken. Some folks bodies can take it better than some others.

We are told all the time about how much better conditioned todays athletes are, how much better the training, medical treatment, recovery techniques are...yet they're worried about back to backs when players are supposedly so much more well conditioned, well trained, etc. than guys who were playing back to back to backs.

Players back then were flying commercial as well.
