If they go Hunter then no need to do the Lakers. If Atlanta is doing this, they’re looking for a rebuild. Tobias Harris gives them a quick way to clear $40 million in cap. If the Hawks want an extra first to make it 3, I would do this.

View attachment 349740

If the Sixers do this, I don’t care that they won’t have cap space this summer because I think they’re all set from here.

Maxey
Murray
Hunter
Batum
Embiid

Bench is Bev Melton Oubre RoCo/Morris BBall Paul

They can still have the midlevel exception this summer and they can do Bird rights on Melton and Batum.
Don’t think you get Murray. You likely can get bog there instead

Ok... I won't quibble over the semantics of it... IMO, it's pretty obviously losing strategy when Maxey is buzzing around Reed like that.

I get that Reed is a non-shooter, but you press up on him a little there because you'd also rather Reed possibly driving than Maxey almost certainly getting the ball in great position to score. If Maxey gets the ball after that, you worry more about him than Reed (obviously)... even to the point of trapping him.

Trap is certainly an option there.

But the reason the center is positioned under is to head off Maxey once he turns the corner.

Press up too far and he just goes around both.

I definitely prefer more aggressive defensive counters to DHO, but I am only pushing back because I willing to bet he is doing what his coaches told him to.

If I was Philly I’d be redirecting cov and others

Let Harris and hunter be your 3/4 and be pretty interchangeable
That’s also not a bad idea. I still think they need secondary ball handling that’s why I added Murray. I think he would be nice around Maxey and Embiid. Murray would allow for the Sixers to really unlock Maxey and have him play some possessions off ball. And you can stagger the Murray/Maxey minutes. That is exciting to me, especially when Melton can play 28 minutes and complement both of those guys. Pat Bev likely can’t get in playoff rotation with those 3 guards locking down the 2 spots the rest of the game.

@The Q you’ve really given a great idea here. This is a move that really rounds out the Sixers and the cost on Hunter and Murray is a set cost that likely comes with value around Embiid/Maxey. I like them both as defensive players already. Now they get to play basketball in Nick Nurse schemes that plays into their length? Wow. I like this better than any OG Caruso scenarios to be honest. It’s quick and clean.

They also need to start calling these DHOs what they actually are, moving picks

I’d throw in the third first round pick and even entertain them adding another contract they want to shed for Murray’s inclusion.

Sure

I think they get at least two firsts or an equivalent from another team just for Murray

Ex: lakers

Russell (matching salary)
Christie
JHS (17th pick this year)
Only first they can trade

For

Murray

It depends on how it’s executed but you’re right in essence. I anticipate in the next two years the NBA making some aspect of the DHO a season long focus kind of foul or even change some language to reflect some level of rule tweaking. It effectively does become a moving pick. It’s similar to what you see in football these days vs man, especially down on the goal line. WR is picking a defender but if they make it look like a route they can get away with it. That’s the way DHO’s are being run now. It’s a way to get a legal moving screen.

Thunder in Nuggetland again tonight. I expect after the last game there the Nuggets are ready for this one.

That’s fair. I’m assuming the Hawks would value the cap reset. DLo isn’t a fit with Trae. Is Trae going too? I don’t know. I think they keep him still.

Oh I would guess he’s rerouted

But yes they need to save money

I think they hang onto trae but okc should get involved there

Jokic tied Wilt last night with his 3rd trip-dub on perfect FG shooting.

He now has 116 regular season trip-dubs. 4th all time. And 22 behind Magic for 3rd all time.

Yeah, I hear ya...

... part of the reason I prefer the aggressive approach here is that if Bidatze lays back in no-mans-land, he can't effectively guard a guy like Maxey and the rim running screener anyways... therefore the supposed benefit of the approach isn't even there.

Something like this is what the Sixers should have an eye on FOR THE RIGHT FIT players. The idea is that the Sixers send firsts and varying levels of 10/17/27/40/57/67 million in expiring contracts to take on contracts from other teams to clear space for a rebuild or retool.

Bog would be a good add for them
Not a big fan of Bog defense. Ideally I want a three that’s a starting two way guy. Bog would have to be a bench guy. I fear he would get hunted in the playoffs as a defender. I love his offense as a third piece.

This is likely the Sixers last move(s) in the Embiid era. Have to be right and get the fit perfectly. I think they’re almost there. They need a two way wing that preferably can shoot 38% or better from three and secondary ball handling that also comes with defense.

Shooting, defense, and length around Embiid/Maxey in Nick Nurse’s scheme is the best shot Sixers have. These things should help them matchup best with what Boston and Milwaukee bring.

Man, they’re so due after the missteps. The more I talk it out with you guys, the picks and expirings are set up well for them to add. They have Embiid/Maxey and the right guy at coach with a real philosophy and blue print to maximize Jo. They have role pieces in place already in Batum, Melton, Oubre and to a lesser extent with Reed and Pat Bev. You can even add Harris to the mix here if the last move is Morris and/or Roco.

They just need to find those complementary pieces. The expiring deals and the picks are enough arsenal for that. This makes or breaks so many legacies but especially Embiid and Morey.

Most if not all those complementary pieces are gone next year in most cases
