I don't get the Mann thing either, but I only watch the Clips when they play the Lakers lol.

The Miami offer clearly wasn't fine. It was dependent on including one talented young player that the Blazers did not want or thought they needed given their current SGs.
It was fine FOR WHAT MIAMI HAD ON THEIR ROSTER. THEY WERE NEVER GOING TO TRADE JIMMY OR BAM

Curious if they put mann in the holiday offer since both bob and mann can net them a first via future trade

That's the rumor with the Sixers, that they want Mann to flip him.

Understood, but they couldn't have thought that would ever be enough. They needed to involve another team or two to make an offer that would approach credible.

They wanted to but Portland was stubborn and blocked miami phone calls which is fine as they came out well

That was the initial offer. They never got past that because the Blazers stopped taking their calls. The Heat couldn't increase their offer (maybe involve a 3rd team) because the Blazers wouldn't tell them what they wanted for Dame.

There are no reports of any third team offer that couldn't get through or that the Blazers stopped taking their calls until recently. Reeks of Heat backtracking to me.

The Sixers still get that cap relief by breaking up Harden's one year cap into multiple expirings (Morris, Covington, Batum) from the Clips though, right?
Correct. However, none of those guys make the Sixers better and then they are in a predicament where they already have to cut one guy from the roster. This is a last ditch effort sort of thing. Harden will have more value at the deadline.
Could do this Oct 15 with draft capital for Harden/Montrezl and keep their expirings more or less even. If they want a young player, they have to sacrifice some of that expiring total of course.
The player from the Clippers they’ve targeted as being worth not having the expiring is Mann. If the Clippers want to do the deal now for the expirings I would think Morey would only do it for 1 or 2 future firsts and a swap. This would be done so they can turn the Tobias Harris 39 million of expiring money into a player to add to Embiid Maxey.

Sixers have 1 first they can deal in like 2027 or 2028 they can also do some future swaps down the line. They need picks from Harden deal so they can come with 2-3 firsts and 2-3 swaps for a rebuilding team.

And once again you dont offer your best deal to start off negotiations in the summer. Miami wasn't going to start off discussions with their best offer on July 4th

There actually are reports that the Blazers stopped taking their calls and have been. 2 or 3 were posted in either this thread or the other.

But I get it, doesn't fit the narrative so it's "backtracking".

So if they can't trade him and he acts up....just John Wall Mr Harden?

That would be beyond retarded.
This is a game of chicken. If I’m the Sixers I’m saying:

Look at the situation. It isn’t like we haven’t tried. Nobody wants you bro. So your response to that can’t be to pout or be an ass. You have to get on the court, ball and be a good teammate. That’s the only chance you have of rehabilitating your value for this summer.

If he still wants to be an asshole, you take away his minutes. The Sixers have Maxey, Melton, Springer, PatBev. They can fill the guard minutes with Harden on the bench and then around the deadline ship him to somebody that wants to reset $35 million of contracts. The guy I reference most often is Lavine because he’s still got 4 years after this one at $40 million. Bulls will likely not be great this year. Bulls also have DeRozan expiring this year. Add Harden’s expiring money and now you have like 70+ million off the Bulls cap for their rebuild.

That is what I was thinking yesterday.

Mann on books for following season at 11.5 mill....not sure why fightin is stuck on him when Batum and RoCo can platoon at SF and give you defense, 12-13ppg and passing (especially Batum).

Not sure what is so difficult to grasp. One side is trying to get something while paying as little as possible and the other side is trying to get as much as possible. So, you negotiate.

I don't see a situation where OG hits the free agent market without being traded first. If Toronto doesn't think they can keep him, they will trade him before the deadline for a return better than Harden's.
I thought they would have traded FVV.

Yea that worked out lovely
I don’t know how you can say it didn’t. It helped to unlock Embiid for him to go next level. I’ve never seen Embiid get better looks than what he got with Harden. The Sixers perpetually go out in round 2. With Harden they actually were up 3-2 vs their nemesis in the Celtics and that’s the high water mark for Embiid teams in the playoffs. These athletes are hard to manage but that’s the job. Sixers front office yet again have done a poor job in that accord. I’m left feeling like they could have handled this differently with Harden. I like that they didn’t step up to give him the max. At the same time, nobody was giving him the max. They could have potentially got him for $25 per for 2 years with the second year being a player option. They screwed the pooch when Morey and Harden already had a solid relationship. That’s on the Sixers from where I sit. When you acquire James Harden and you’re Morey you can’t say we didn’t know who he is. He’s an ego for sure that has to be managed right. We can bitch about that all day, but that’s pro sports from the front office perspective. You have to manage egos.

Sixers need to get in on that. The best way for them to do so is to trade Harden for draft assets to entice Toronto. Either way, OG has a player option for next season and is only making $18 per year. He can likely get something that approximates 30 million per year. Even if OG is traded, he’s still likely to be on the market. The team that trades for him could have a leg up but he fits really well with Maxey Embiid and a Nick Nurse philosophy of basketball. He likely gets some really good looks with the defense being so stop Embiid/centric. Maxey/Embiid pick and roll needs a shooter on the wing around it.

Batum is a serviceable guy for sure. He can play a legit role for the Sixers. RoCo is cooked though like Morris. The only knock on Batum is that he’s redundant with PJ Tucker. They have similar games. You can’t play them together because neither guy has much of a willingness to shoot.

If you think Morey gets tough in negotiations, good luck trying to get anything from Toronto. They seem to have complete blinders on, ignoring any trade interest unless they get an enormous offer. No team is going to trade for OG without an assumed extension to follow.
