If you think Morey gets tough in negotiations, good luck trying to get anything from Toronto. They seem to have complete blinders on, ignoring any trade interest unless they get an enormous offer. No team is going to trade for OG without an assumed extension to follow.
They still need to nail that extension though. Masai didn’t budge and FVV wasn’t dealt. He also failed to trade Lowry at the deadline the year before the Miami sign and trade. As you said, Raptors are tough to do a deal with. It’s more likely in my eyes that Raptors organization convinced him to stay and gives him a plan for an extension this summer than they are to execute a trade Masai likes. I’m a big fan of OG as potentially a top 3-4 3 and D guy in the NBA but he hasn’t proven to be that guy yet and Masai is well known for over valuing his own assets.

They didn't anticipate the Rockets being willing to burn money I guess?

The deal is fine, but unlikely to deliver much if any surplus value

But they also are screwed by the dumb Westbrook trade

Masai over valued him at the deadline. There were interested parties but he couldn’t close a deal because he overvalued FVV on an expiring with no promise of a resign. I do agree that Rockets overpaid but that’s the same situation you’re poo pooing when I’m talking about OG. He’s a 30 million dollar player but who has that kind of cap room next summer? Among contenders it’s really only the Sixers by my estimation.

It’s funny how none of these lineup

But Martin and Jaquez are the heat’s Mann
I like Martin a bunch…right now. I always worry about a Heat role player though when you take them off the Heat. The Heat are great at getting a guy to perform a role for them in their culture but when they leave it’s a crap shoot. I think of guys like Tyler Johnson and Josh Richardson. You look at them with the Heat and you’re like - Ok young brother! and you think they’ll be the same or better when they move on. But in reality, the players warts the Heat hid by making up for them come to the foreground when they move on. Good luck to everybody that is depending on Gabe Vincent and Max Strus.

The issue with OG wasn’t money per se

The cba rules make an extension almost impossible

But he also wanted a bigger role

They picked OG over fred

But still should’ve traded him

But again, rentals don’t go far in the nba

It’s gotta be guys you value the bird rights to

See how the lakers over paid for rui cause they wanted to keep him beyond the rental year

Yep heat fans keep laughing about how the talk of gabe vincent changed since he left. You would think he's a top player the way people are talking about him. I think strus will be fine because he's a shooter and you don't normally forget how to do that

The heat find role players in their couch cushions

Whcih is why fussing over sub mann level players for dame was silly

No doubt! I’m a big culture guy. I’m seeing it now with success for Eagles and Phillies plus failure with the Sixers and Flyers. The deciding factor in all 4 stories has been the culture of the team and organization. Multiple people are a part of Heat culture. But for me, Spo gets most of that credit.

Yeah I mean I got nothing but love and respect for the heat

When they aren’t a risk to the Celtics I find myself rooting for them

I think they fucked up cause they were never going to have the best offer unless dame tried to pull what he did

But the heat needed to go hard early to make a “good enough”’offer that Portland wasn’t insulted and shopping around.

Good enough to do good by dame and move on

They didn’t. That’s really it

When I look back on this situation, I don’t think the misstep was by Portland or Miami. I think the thing that blew up Dame to Heat possibility was Dame’s agent poisoning the well in a fucked up way that almost immediately got the league involved in writing letters and making a public statement. He crossed a line with that.

I think them knowing Miami didn’t have the best offer was a factor

Plus dame deciding AFTER the draft made it harder for Miami since 18 was likely the best pick port would get from a Miami pick
